Pushing wading limits

Freelander 1:

I bet the FL2 couldn't do that without mods. Of course, this FL1 may be modded. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Very fortunate I would say. I've had water over the bonnet of my Fl1 and buried another so deep water covered the interior floors/boot. But I managed to keep the air filter out of the water - bit it was close and coughed/spluttered and I had the instrument pack going crazy all the way home :-/

That looks like they entered the flood with little idea of how deep it was, whether their exit was clear or, as likely as not, if there was any fast flowing water crossing the road.

Looks like they got lucky Rolling Eyes

Older FL1 dieseel has a float that shuts off the air intake in the nearside wheel arch. It then breathes through the small air intake next to the winscreen under the bonnet.

As long as you keep moving, there is a depression that allows the engine to breath.

Oh so wish they had the same on the FL2.
TD4 FL1 doesn't have the same arrangement, and the altenator is very low and doesn't like deep wading, Censored expensive when it dies as a result Sad Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

1.8 K was the same as the 2.0 L, was a good simple solution that worked well.
