Afternoon All.

collected my new FL2 yesterday, a July 10 GS with 15k on the clock, and very pleased with it cannot believe how quiet they are considering the size of them, and even the Ipanema Sand colour that i wasnt to sure about is actually a colour i maty have chosen.

Anyway a couple i niggles, the steering wheel is looking as though it is deteriorating on the bottom, would this be covered by the remaining 12 months iof the manafacturers warranty?

Also there is a patch on the drivers seat that looks heavily warn, anyone no if this would be considered.

If you bought it from a LR dealer, take it back & ask the service staff nicely to have a look. It should still be covered under the warranty. A steering wheel or seat shouldn't wear out in 15k miles. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Are you sure its done 15k? how do you wear a seat and steering wheel out in that time?, mines done 60k and they are still like new and I dont treat it all that carefully either.
Make sure its not 15k on the clock but 80k on the last one before they changed it?

Got to agree with Mona Geeza here, mines done over 75k, lots down quarries, climbing in and out with filthy hands and overalls. Ok not brand new, but no noticeable deterioration - easily good for as many miles again and possibly again after that.

Same thoughts here. Mine has done 66k with little sign of wear on seats apart from leather edges becoming pretty shiny where I get in and out (I've only got short legs!!).
Incidentally, I bought mine from Marshall in Cambridge and had no troubles with them.

I have known people clock a car before first service and then again before next service or when they sell.

Few years ago i had a customer with a Volvo estate, bought it brand-new and had two dashboards programmed. he used to run up 10K the ask me to put his other speedo in till the service then put the old one back.
So he had perfect dealer stamp and MOT but the car had done loads more miles as he used to commute 200 miles a day all motorway.

Worse than that.
My son has an 07 Audi A3. When he bought it 2 years ago it had 10k on the clock, he contacted the selling dealer who confirmed that when they put a new engine in at 80k they reset the clock "as per the manufacturers instructions". Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

You can't (easily) "clock" an FL2.
The odometer info is stored in 6 places (ECUs) around the car.
At startup an all around check is done and a comparison is made.
If any difference, greater than 200 miles is found, then the biggest value from all 6 is taken and used and stored again on all 6 places and an error is stored.
One of my ECUs in my car, that store this information, sometimes loose connection with the CJB. So, after a long journey (over 200 miles) the odometer info in that ECU is out of sync. Almost always, after such a journey, I found an "Odometer tampered" error stored.

So, you see, you have to know pretty well the electronics and the procedures to store/modify the information in all 6 places. Otherwise, you wont get the desired result...

Almost every Freel2 I have gone into the IPK to check for errors has come up with this code including my own ! but there again my own has been fitted with 4 new dash's so may be they made an error inputting the miles.

Every loan FR2 I have used i have also checked for faults and found this "odometer tampered " code in 50% of them and some had done less than 1700 miles.

Yeah... This confirms the fact that a small miscommunication between modules can lead to such errors.
And that a job like rolling back the odometer is not as easy as thought.

As for the A3 Audi, they store the odometer value only in 2 places. Easier to do.
The VCDS can read the two values/locations and show them to you.
