2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Mine was the same i was going to paint them like you would do with stone chips but was giving the car a good coat of Mer Hybrid wax and decided to do under the bonnet with it. Result was very good it all looks a hell of a lot better and it doesnt worry me anymore. Side note,Mer Hybrid is an excellent wax which gives very good protection but i hated it on first use,the trick is to use very little of it and do two panels then buff off.

The dealer rang yesterday, the bonnet rust is not covered under the paintwork warranty, as is surface not penetrative or something

So what do I do, just paint over it with touch up paint, or use something to remove it first Question Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Ku-rust or something similar should sort it out,primer and touch up after i think that should see it done.

Must say I'm a bit Shocked about this. I remember the hours spent painting a variety of rustproofers on a succession of cars, although the rust always came back. But it's many years since I had to use anything like this. Last one was a 200TDi that was 10 years old and had had a very hard life! Modern cars don't rust! (Except Land Rovers, it seems).

You need to get hold of a tin opener to have a look inside see if the rust is coming from there?
If its not then it was ok.

It is good stuff but all Bilt stuff is expensive,theres another forum i go on Rolling Eyes that loves the stuff but ive always thought you can get equal quality with other products.

I accidently left the keys in the door of a Montego all day long while parked up in Solihull.
Unforunately, when I got back to where i'd parked it, it was still there Big Cry Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Checked today and got that rust on mine too. Now that really is crap quality. If this is the best engineering us Brits can come up with then I'll be buying a 7 year warranted Korean car next time.

This is getting out of hand now.

This corrosion is pretty trivial and you are no more likely to be able to successfully claim for this under a Korean warranty than you are a Land Rover one. As a matter of interest, Kia restrict claims for paintwork problems to 100,000 miles, Land Rover have no mileage limit.

With areas like this, the easiest and most effective protection is to simply heat up a pot of heavy grease on a camping stove and then brush it into the effected areas while it's still warm. Not very pretty, but quick and 100% effective.

My point really is that a less than 3 year old modern car should have NO RUST ON IT, ANYWHERE, AT ALL!!!!! My 7 year old Audi looks like the day it rolled out of the showroom. This rust must be because the grade of steel isn't good enough or this area of the car is not painted properly, or its a badly designed water trap, or all three. Stop defending poor quality.
