The dealer rang yesterday, the bonnet rust is not covered under the paintwork warranty, as is surface not penetrative or something

Must say I'm a bit about this. I remember the hours spent painting a variety of rustproofers on a succession of cars, although the rust always came back. But it's many years since I had to use anything like this. Last one was a 200TDi that was 10 years old and had had a very hard life! Modern cars don't rust! (Except Land Rovers, it seems). |

You need to get hold of a tin opener to have a look inside see if the rust is coming from there? If its not then it was ok. |

I'll tell you how desirable a Montego was.

Could have been worse; they might have nicked the key and left the car behind... |

Checked today and got that rust on mine too. Now that really is crap quality. If this is the best engineering us Brits can come up with then I'll be buying a 7 year warranted Korean car next time. |

This is getting out of hand now. This corrosion is pretty trivial and you are no more likely to be able to successfully claim for this under a Korean warranty than you are a Land Rover one. As a matter of interest, Kia restrict claims for paintwork problems to 100,000 miles, Land Rover have no mileage limit. |

With areas like this, the easiest and most effective protection is to simply heat up a pot of heavy grease on a camping stove and then brush it into the effected areas while it's still warm. Not very pretty, but quick and 100% effective. |
