Please be aware the the FUNDS will show as cleared in your account but two weeks later your bank will find out that the cheque/bankers draft was a fake and make you pay...A well know scam..

Forget my ignorance, but if the BANK has made a mistake and hasn't verified the source of the funds, why should they come after you and make you pay?
In the end, it isn't your check/it wasn't emitted by you, so why should they hold you responsible?

PS: Again, sorry for my ignorance, but I didn't worked so much with banks, checks, etc...

It is not a mistake by your bank Alex as they have been a victim of theft by dint of you presenting them with a stolen/forged cheque which they have no way of verifying. They will put the cheque through the system as normal and will come back cleared. The first they will know about it is when the owner of the stolen funds notices it and demands redress from their bank. Their bank will get the money back from your bank who in turn will quite understandably seek redress from you. Your option is to get the car back from the buyer who of course has disappeared over the horizon! John

Usually it considered that a check will be cleared after about 4 to 6 working days BUT the funds will not be released into your account for some time after that if tbey are still waiting for funds to be transfered from the other bank.
If you let your goods go before this time you may loose them as your bank wont credit your account or if tbey did then they will want it back.
Trying to get your goods back is almost imposible so never let goods go untill you have comfirmed money has been cleared in your account. You can comfirm this by getting your bank to make checks about two weeks after they were paid in.
If its nit cleared by then its not going to be Thumbs Up

Thanks for all your advice, I'm glad I asked, and now much wiser. He did sound dodgy, I've never had a person not coming around to inspecting the car he/ she is intending to buy. Thumbs Up

Whilst we're on the subject, don't take PayPal for a car sale, since you can't provide a proof of delivery for the car and PayPal will reverse the transaction when the scammer opens a dispute. Indeed do not take PayPal for anything where the buyer collects.

I am one for the promotion and protection of the English language. Not an easy task as it's a fluid object that is subject to constant change. It is appropriate not to scorn the colonials for their cultural amendments to the foundation lexicon and its spelling, however, it is equally important that the English do their utmost to ensure that they at least, spell their native language correctly.

In this regard my latest problem is with this infernal iPad2 Gen3 of my daughter's which has been set by her mother to have a number of keyboard language settings. Naturally I seek to employ only the "English" keyboard, but this Californian designed Chinese manufactured automaton casually and without warning drops in a "Calichin" word or phrase that in my haste I fail to observe.

Net result - I end up posting something that is plainly not English Shocked

English: 'Cheque'

Derived from French 'chequé'.

Hope there are no pedantic French folk on this forum or we're all stuffed!
