First Freelander 2

Hello everyone. I'm new in town so apologies in advance for any gaffs.

Hope to pick up my Freelander 2 this weekend! Very Happy It's an SE Auto in Tonga Green. Was hoping for a HSE but couldn't find the right one.

This is my first Freelander 2 after owning 3 Freelander 1s. Any top tips???

Cheers,

Jason

Welcome Thumbs Up

Generally reliable with some electrical gremlins here and there perhaps. The standard headlights are crap. I upgraded the bulbs to halfords ultra brilliance +120% which are much better and the sidelights look better with some xenon LED's. If you are interested, I will try and find the link for you.

Just watch out for speed difference. The FL2 is sloth like compared to normal cars of similar power but it would leave an FL1 trailing.

More technical know how members will doubtless give more in depth pointers Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi there Very Happy

I am collecting my first FL2 tomorrow. SD4 XS and I believe XS is similar spec to the SE which it replaced I think Confused

I traded in an FL1 Adventurer manual and this is my first auto purchase. I am going from a 110bhp 191 lb ft 2.0 TD4 to an SD4 with 190bhp and 310 lb ft of torque. I will be taking it very steady with the extra power until accustomed Laughing

No doubt we will share further thoughts and photo's once we both have our new motors Thumbs Up 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Hi Doctor. Thanks for the heads up on lights etc.

My current Freelander 1 Td4 has a small power upgrade via a Rover Ron power box and an EGR bypass. However I'm looking forward to the extra power of the FL2 (not to mention the auto box).

Hello Kal-El too. Looks like you're an auto first timer too. Which Guy Salmon are you going to? I'm picking mine up from Guy Salmon in Wakefield at the weekend Very Happy

Hi Parallax33 as well.

Cheers for the welcomes! Looking forward to sharing stuff on here!!! Smile

What a coincidence! I am going to the Wakefield dealer too. I got served by Carl Brady and got an excellent deal. The monthly payments started at £360 but in the end got it down to £306. Very Happy

Hello again Kal-El.

Sorry for not replying last night, had to go to bed! I was worn out! Must have been the weekend (beer fest Fri, 8 hours prepping car for sale on Sat and 2 hour drive up to Wakefiled on Sun!!! Laughing )

I dealt with Carl Brady too. Nice bloke and I got a good deal as well. One of the reasons I drove all the way to Wakefield was his manner on the phone. He was straight up and honest about the vehicle. No spouting *****x like some of the other dealers I spoke to.

Sounds like you had a good deal. Did you have a part ex? I got just under £2k for my Td4 ES with 140k on the clock which I was happy with. Probably could have got a few hundred quid more selling private but I didn't want the hassle. I've financed mine with a bank loan as Carl said they could match the price I'd been quoted. He probably could have been more competitive if I was buying a newer vehicle.

It's not too late to change your mind and get that Range Rover you know... Wink

If all goes to plan, I should be picking up my new beast tomorrow morning.

I'll post some pictures as soon as I get chance.

Be sad to see the Td4 go. She has served me well for 90k miles and I have no complaints!

Onward and upward...

Cheers Parallax! Laughing

I've just been out to change the bulbs as recommended by the Doctor.

The ultrabright bulbs do make a vast difference. I bought some of the LED sidelights off fleaBay but I thought they were a bit 'blue' even against the ultrabright bulbs. I've put in the 'warm white' ones I had in the F1 and they look pretty good.

I got them from Ultraleds a few years ago. I don't think they're the anti warning type but I don't get any warnings when the lights are on.

The system of getting the bulbs in and out isn't as good as the F1! Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green
