I have heard a number of reviewers saying that there is a lot of road noise, but to me it is one of he quietest cars I have owned.

There is a bit of wind noise at high speed, but not more than I would expect considering it is literally a box on wheels.

I have also noticed a massive difference in both road and engine noise in moving from a manual TD4 to an auto SD4. 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY

mart,

I thought mine was very good for lack of road noise, mines on Continentals though.
If you dont like road noise then a new Rolls Royce Phantom is the one to have, you cant hear anything it that.

I believe the majority of road noise is down to the tyres. My original set (cheap Fullrun tyres) were making a droning sound which sounded exactly like bearing noise. With the tyres replaced, the noise has disappeared completely, and the FL2 is one of the quietest cars (for its size) that I've driven. A few people on the forum have commented on the Wranglers being quite noisy.

It will be the Wranglers, excellent all round tyre with brilliant wear rate. I had them from new on 17" wheels and after 21,000 miles still had 5-6mm tread left. They also droned/roared at 25-35mph like being in an aircraft in flight.
At that point I went to 18" wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Zero's and what a difference in road noise, the whine disappeared and overall a lot quieter drive.

I didn't think about this until a passenger (who drives a Yaris) asked me why the background noise kept changing. He thought it was the cruise control, as he'd never seen one before, but it was actually the Goodyears on changing road surfaces. I've since got a new set of Goodyears and I reckon they are even noisier. It's very surface-dependent and I had put it down to the wider wheels, but am now thinking it is indeed the Wranglers.

I was amazed how much 'smoother' ride was in 'loan' car- only difference was SD4 + Auto = dont think would make any difference to ride BUT car had 19inch wheels mine has 18, I can only assume its the 19's that made the difference 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

Road Noise
Before it is anything mechanical on your FL2 it will be the factory fitted Goodyear Wranglers. Excellent wear rate, but must be the noisiest tyre on the road for the FL2.

New tyre labelling regulations that come into effect in the EU on Nov 1st will demonstrate whether it is the loudest of all M&S tyres available. Even the "Kiss" cannot shut the load drowning out on a trip down the Autobahn. Evil or Very Mad

My new car (when I eventually get it Rolling Eyes ) comes with continental tyres and it's an SD4. I am therefore hoping for a quiet experience Very Happy 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Occasionally - when it suits the Swiss to comply, which is seldom. But in this case the Swiss have no car manufacturing industry and no tyre manufacturing industry to protect, and influentially, they are not in a position to insist that tyre manufacturers remove the new labelling for the tyres imported into CH.
