Dashboard out is not difficult - I have done it a couple of times to fit stuff - all fairly logical and mine goes back no problem.

Just a heads up for anyone contemplating this mod >>> Halfords (who look equal cheapest for the Start 60 @ £129.99) have a £20 fuel cash back promotion with TomTom that ends tomorrow night.

Great photos, thanks. Just picked a Start 60 up tonight, Kitchener. I have the LR splash screens on my current Tomtom One so will have to remember how to put them on this new one - if you get time then some idiot guide instructions may come in handy. In any case, with work, holidays etc I won't get chance to fit mine until mid August at best, cheers.

Fitted mine today, looks good Thumbs Up
Tomorrow I will take it out, I need a photo of the back with the serial number for the £20 fuel offer Laughing

How did you change the startup screen, it's all hidden on my PC? I had screens on previous models but can't see any directories on this on?

its best to do all updates to TT before final install. Not sure if this works on PC , as I use a Mac, but to install new images ( jpeg 800 x 480 ) you need to connect TT to computer and let it connect to MY TOMTOM, Log in ,then in another tab got to http://169.254.255.1/pcmi/?locale=en_gb where it should open a page i think its called add community content where you can upload your images to device.
TT will tell you its updating . When finished go to TT menu and change start up images.

sorted my splash screens Very Happy
My "how to" in case any use to others:-
on PC:-
I downloaded a good quality LR logo via google images
in photo software I resized it to 800 x 480 and saved it as a .bmp
clicked into my tomtom software > add community content > add image
uploaded photo
on TomTom:-
went to settings
on last screen > went to start up
followed screens and changed start-up and shut-down image to LR logo
all done Mr. Green

for anyone claiming the cash back:
the serial number for the start 60 is under a black flap (centre bottom) you need to flick it up to find the little white sticker with the number on
not obvious - at least not to me Confused

Also good idea to add micro memory card , just in case you want Europe maps. Slot is next to serial No.

Yes, good idea to fit e card now, I have it wired into a USB type charger in the glove box, this facilitates connecting laptop for easy updates.
I went for a black logo background.

Is there a USB type charger socket in the glove box of a GS? I'd like try this with my tomtom at some point.

I soldered a Fly lead onto a 5A blade fuse, a little fiddly as there is little room, I took the plastic corner off the blade fuse and it leaves enough metal to solder too.
This is fitted in position F5 which is ignition switched, make sure the blade is the right way round, so that in the event of a fault it will blow. It also can be removed quickly and has not broken into any wiring or upset any potential warranty claim. The earth was taken by placing a crimped ring on the negative wire and bolted to a chassis point behing the glove box.
On the other end of this lead is a flying cigar lighter type socket, Maplin have them, this is shown in Piocture 2 with the TomTom USB charger inserted and the nav plugged in, this allows a laptop to be connected for updates to the Nav. I will look at fixing it in place to get rid of the flying leads.

Cigar lighter socket in glove box, fed from an ignition switched supply at F5 so the TomTom powers up/down with Ignition

Finished unit in place, looks very neat. Thumbs Up

These things are useful for connecting into fused circuits for accessories.
Saves any soldering.

Thanks very much for all that info Kitchener and taztastic - I now know what I'll be fitting when the Garmin finally gives up. Very nice installations.
