Fuel Pump Damage and New Exhaust Camshaft.....help! | |
Good Afternoon All,
My first post.....and unfortunately its not great news.
Since the purchase of my 07 Freelander 2 GS TD4 in February 2011 (48000miles) I have had nothing but problems.
Within 6 months, I had to put the car into my local approved Land Rover service centre, only to be told my car required a new rear diff.
After many phone calls to different dealers, specialists I was told this was very rare, especially on a car that had only turned over 50,000miles.
Just over 3 weeks ago I had to replace both Hubs on the front wheels, which I guess is down to normal use.
However, 2 weeks ago on an early morning trip from Oxford to Stansted, the engine decided to shutdown on the 3rd lane fo the M11. Got recovered and the car was taken back to my local approved Land Rover service centre. A Diagnostic test was run which showed that the fuel pump had seized/failed and required replacing.
Again I was told this was pretty much unheard off on a car of this age. The garage ordered the new pump, went to fit it and found further damage. Upon the pump seizing the top of the exhaust cam shaft broke off resulting in 6 shards of metal entering the engine.
The camshaft was replaced along with a new timing and 4 of the pieces recovered from the oil ways using powerful magnets to remove from the engine. In order to find the additional 2 pieces the sump was removed and checked, with no joy.
It is now believed the pieces are somewhere between the cylinder head oil jacket and the block oil jacket.
By no means a costly job, and we are now at the point of considering scrapping or a re-con engine.
I would be greatful if anyone could let me know whether they have experienced similar problems of this nature?
I plan to contact Land Rover Customer Service to see if they may have any goodwill although I dont hold much hope.
