This afternoon with the warning message "DPF VOLL" in the Main Message Centre and the amber "REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE" warning light illuminated I drove off for the motorway to follow the Owner's Manual regeneration procedure.

Out of interest athelstan, was your speed maintained in 5th or 6th gear |

I used to have the same issue constantly with my 07 Freelander 2 SE but I had the DPF removed and the car's brain tweaked so that it doesn't notice that the DPF is removed and it won't go into reduced engine performance mode. Now I don't have to do the regeneration trips on the motorway to clean the DPF filter. I had to do them at least 3 times a week which was absurd and a local Land Rover technician told me that the most efficient speed for the regeneration process to work is if you are driving with the 3rd gear at speeds of 70-75 km an hour (the engine rev's had to be over 2500 rpm). He recommended keeping it at 72 km/h. It used to do the trick but still I decided to get rid of the DPF filter altogether. 2007 FL2 TD4 Tambora Flame |

Hi Arrjo! I am curious about how you outwitted the car's ECU. Did you do a re-map or fitted a box? Thanks and all the best for the northern neighbour |

From what I know, Arrjo, having a MY2007 car, has a different ECU than yours.

I got fed up with this because its just stupid. You know when you get the message you need to try and regenerate the DPF but by the time you get to the motorway its always too late and your in limp mode.

Take a road-trip to Estonia and get the DPF removed |

You won't get away with it: Because your exhaust gas is tested every 2yrs by your servicing garage and then you get that "exhaust" certificate sticker slapped on your screen usually at the rear. No valid sticker and you'll face a hefty fine plus an immediate test from Plod. Plus depending on which Kantone you live in your FL2 will have to pass it's exhaust gas test as part of it's vehicle "Prufung" every 3yrs, but in our Kantone the waiting time for the MOT is currently circa 5yrs. |

Ok, then I guess there's only the official way to deal with it - let your LR dealer replace the old DPF unit with a new one. I guess that'll be crazy expensive.
