Wheel size change

Hi, thinking of fitting 19" wheels to our GS auto, which is presently running on 17". Has anyone done this and found the ride to be a lot too hard on the road. If so do you think 18" would be a better compromise. Best regards Adrian

I have 18's fitted and have no problems with the ride comfort at all...it's perfect (But i did come from a lowered hot hatch!).

They offer 19's over here the sports pack and I can't imagine they would if the ride were to become awful, and as the FL2 suspension is made for comfort then I would say the 19's will pose no problems at all.

Member Brian27 has 20" Kahn wheels on his and has not mentioned anything about an uncomfortable ride, but maybe you could drop him a PM, if he doesn't turn up and post.

P.S. Welcome to the boards Thumbs Up

There is a nice set of shadow chrome 19" on eBay for £800 BIN inc tyres

At this price check they are OEM though

My dealer was selling these on a offer for £1700 Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hi,

I had a loaner GS with 19s and a bodykit, the wheels definatelt make a difference to the ride. The ride is firmer and the steering feels a little heavier. You can feel the lump and bumps in the road that are normally ironed out.

But then again they do look pretty mean...........................

Regards

Paul;

Wheel size change

Hi, Paul,
That answers my question brilliantly, I cant hardly feel any bumps at all on the current 17"s and was afraid 19" might be to firm.
Thanks for all for the replies and the welcome onto the board.

i have 20's on mine and i honestly don't think there is much difference in the ride quality and infact is still much better than my dads bmw x5
the tyres i have fitted are 285/45/20

Thanks Brian,
Getting to think I may opt for the 18" HSE type but the wife likes the 19" chrome style and she drives it most of the time, only trouble is she likes the very smooth ride running on the 17"s that are fitted as standard, I have to settle for my van Sad

I bought a set of the mentioned 19" chrome shadow alloys from e-bay, on Friday for £680. Can confirm that they are pukka, the genuine article and brand new. Fitted with Continental Contacts 4x4 which retail at around £175 each so the wheels were effectively free - wheel and tyre cost £522 per corner from stealer at full retail. Previously ran 18" HSE alloys with Goodyear Wranglers and there is very little difference in ride comfort between the 18" and 19".

Hi jmmym, I was watching those and the other set the chap had which went for £800, he lets these go for £675 so you done well, I have opted for a 17" hse set, the wife has had a lot of back surgery and so was concerned about making the ride hard and bumpy, we where not able to get a drive in a fl2 with 19" fitted as a test. Thanks For the info.
Adrian.

Brian 27, I have a question for you:
Did you have any problems fitting in those tires? I'm about to get 22" alloys on my ride and the tires are gonna be 285/35-22. The only reason why I've been holding back is that I wasn't sure if they fit or not! So did you have to do any modifications to fit them on yours?? The world is yours, get on your grind and get it!
