FL2 Software Update & Diagnostic Charges

Afternoon All
Just had 'Steering Column Locked' come up on dashboard and according to the gurus on here, it requires a software update.
Caffyns @ Lewes advised £113 for a diagnostic check to verify the fault but as it was a technical bulletin item I went straight to the fix it now option - a charge of £47 plus labour.

Questions are is the above normal?
Do garages normally charge for a diagnostic check and/or software update and if so are the charges above the norm?

Might be a daft question but my 1967 Series 2 hasn't got any software to fix Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Its a sad state of affairs but nothing is for free anymore including the time for the man at the garage to plug in the meter etc

My car is visiting Guy Salmon in Portsmouth in a couple of days for a 'summer check' and software update. All for £10 !!! Not only that but I get a half day experience voucher thrown in as well - absolute bargain. Mind you, they no doubt make up for it at service time, which might be the reason for the offer but hey, having been on a half day experience before, I'm pretty happy.

Your Series 2 doesn't have to comply with ever stricter emmission regulations.
Not personally fond of the interference from beurocrats - but the smog was killing people.

Anyway for the price of three of cups of (£100) coffee you could buy a diagnostic kit and save money every time you broke down, which hopefully will be less often than a Series 2 Very Happy Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
