clutch slipping at 68k

Great... clutch is slipping, was driving today and noticed when you accelerate quickly the clutch seems to slip, doesnt do it when driving around the town etc. feels like an auto when you floor it....this car has done 58k but i would have expected alot more miles out of a clutch.

You may not believe this, but 58k for a DMF is good going.
It may have been slipping for a while, not all notice it.

Does it happen at 2000 - 2300 rpm pulling in high gear? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

It's the DMF.
Have you some sort of warranty from the dealer?
If so, insist on a new clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder.

L/R are still fitting the same crap parts so read into that what you want.
There has been a slight mod, but they are still failing. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Congrats on getting that far - twice what we got. And how lucky to notice it on the high street and not on a 4WD track in a forest up a mountain. Still will cost £1k+ to fix. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

no luck with warranties because i bought it privatly...is it maybe a case of the DMF has been done previously and it now needs a clutch?? does anyone know where i can source a DMF from other than landrover or which brand is good also am i likely to have to do this within the next 40k after it is done???

You could try a Ford dealership as the DMF and clutch are Ford parts

Normally both DMF and the friction plate are replaced together, it's unlikey that the clutch alone is worn as you car is showing typical weak DMF symptoms.

I really hope that you hav'nt been sold a car where the prevoius owner was aware of this problem. I'd be livid.

Don't think you have much choice than to get it done, don't forget a new slave cylinder otherwise the whole lot will have to come apart again if that leaks.

You have my sympathy Big Cry Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

what does it feel like when it slips mine still seems to sometimes do something funny about 2500rpm but its not all the time :S When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

It will happen at peak torque, around 2000/2400 rpm in high gear and is more noticable on a slight incline. If you either ease off the throttle or change down and get the revs up, you will then reduce the torque and the clutch starts to feel normal.
If it is the DMF, it generally doesn't happen in lower gear as the engine is not at peak torque levels. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

You are still in warranty so they must honour it.
Not all dealers are the same, if you've a tow bar it's a get out.
Change dealers if you're not satisfied or speak to L/R customer service, they really do try to help.

The dealer has a right to inspect the parts to see if it's 'wear and tear' or a faulty component.
You too have that right, those parts belong to you. You can demand to see those parts and take independent advice if not satisfied.
If the clutch is not worn, they should replace the DMF/clutch/slave cylinder as a warranty claim on L/R.
If the clutch is worn, you pay. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

have done a bit of digging on this dmf issue, spoke to the prev owner who says he has never replaced clutch or dmf and i do believe him as he seemed genuine ,most problems reported with dmf issues have been between 9k and 25k and most mechanics ive spoken to say if it was the dmf failing it is more than likely that shuddering, noise,or a drop in the pedal would coincide with the slipping issue and it would do it all the time not just every now and then.......so im curious to what you guys think on the following...do you think that the dmf fault is within a certain chassis range and this is why not everyone has this fault? do you think it is maybe a seal and fluid is leaking on to the plate causing slipping or clutch plate? and has anyone actually replaced just the clutch and at what milage?

As I posted in a previous thread that Matzker in Germany supply an uprated clutch. See http://www.matzker.de/product_info.php?products_id=1025 You'll need to translate this but Google translate worked.

When my dmf failed, no shuddering or pedal drop. All seemed normal except for slip. Dunno what mechanics you've been talking to, wrong ones I suspect. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
