Terrain Response - since when ? which trim ?

Hello All,

I'm new to the forum and I'm starting to acquire knowledge related to FL2 in view of an acquisition (second-hand).
In the current offer (at least here in Romania), all the trims (S/SE/HSE) have Terrain Response (TR) as standard. I thought this was the case for all FL2 since 2007.

However, I saw pictures of pre-facelift models having no TR knob in the dash.

So, I'm asking you for some clarifications:
- All the facelift FL2s have TR as standard ?
- Among the pre-facelift FL2s, TR was only an option ? What is the difference - from technical point-of-view between an standard AWD and AWD with TR ? One of the trims (S/SE/HSE) on pre-facelift models had TR as standard?

Thank you !

PS: I searched before posting, but found no clear answer.

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

S model in UK did not have TR until the facelift for 2011 MY all other 4 wh drive versions both pre and post facelift are fitted with TR. Also 2 wheel drive versions do not have TR.

The Haldex unit which provides the AWD capability is the same in both TR and non-TR equipped vehicles. What TR does in simple terms is give the driver the option to adjust vehicle settings to maximise performance in given terrain types; grass gravel snow, mud & ruts, sand.

In Romania, there was another level of equipment, named "E". The correct order is E/S/SE/HSE.
Only that "E" doesn't have TR.
As for the TR, it only adapts some things like throttle response, ABS sensitivity, gear change points (auto), etc. for the selected program.
But all, including the "E" versions have Traction Control, which is the real thing that you'll need most in difficult situations.
Stay away from FL2s that are built up to middle of 2008. They tend to have some childhood problems that are mostly solved on the cars built after middle of 2008. So, in other words a MY2009 or later.
They also have a new and improved Haldex (generation 4) AWD system.
But all in all, any manufacture year, even 2007, are much better and reliable cars that the previous Freelander 1.
