HDC FAULT

Got in the car this morning

Temp was reading -4c and the glow plug symbol came on and there was the pause in starting, then the car took a couple of seconds of cranking over to start.

I then got a "HDC not available" fault message and then came up telling me "HDC was turned off" Question

I also thought the cars clutch seemed spongy till i had driven it a little Shocked

I put this down to the cold weather for the glow plug (obviously) but i shouldn't get the others

Has anybody else had these ?

Shocked Blimy, only had my fl2 for two weeks and thought this was normal, as mine always shows this message on startup.

Phoning dealer first thing.

At least they told you they didn't know what they was doing, and had a second go at fixing them on yours aswell

I'm going in on the 25th and getting a courtesy car as they say 30 mins but it will take 2 hours and if they break it i should be able to keep the car till they sort it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

npinks,

Found this over on disco3, perhaps this explains things, what do you think.

I've been seeing this and 'HDC not available' for two years now. Stop worrying, it usually implies that the battery is slghtly below ideal charge levels as a result of a cold night or a lack of a decent run.

No need to panic........ Thumbs Up

Edit: Unless it happens all the time when warm or after a long run......... Neutral

just read that myself aswell

but, it happens to me after very cold nights, but my display say "HDC FAULT SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE" then goes on to say "HDC switched off" and each time it has done it the glowplugs have been used during starting

In next week for LR to look at it,

I think it is something to do with the cold weather and a sensor or oil solidifying in the system Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

HDC fault today on startup - was -6 and a bit slow cranking.... think I can put this down to slightly low voltage on the batt??

The fault cleared almost immediatly once the engine was running and it all worked fine when I tested it! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

I posted the same thing in the 'Snow' topic in reply to your message Pinks, as you've found on Disco 3.

However, all the messages immediately cleared when the car was running, as the charge is restored into the battery. Your problem sounds slightly more concerning to me Sad

Mine was slow starting this morning, but saw no HDC fault showing ( touch wood) On the starting issue how do you let the glow plugs stay on for abit. I my last car with a key i just turned the ignition to position 1 and let the plugs warm up, but you cant do this with the FL.

THat's why there's a pause between pressing the button and it turning over, to let the glow plugs warm when it's really cold.

Alternatively, if you press and hold the button without your foot on the clutch (or brake if it's an auto)for 2 seconds, the ignition turns on along with the glow plugs Thumbs Up Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

It's not a battery problem as such, it's because the car isn't getting used for long enough.

When you start the engine, it takes a lot of charge out of the battery. If you only do a short journey, then the battery isn't completely topped up.

Carry on like this for a while the charge in the battery dips to a level where it starts causing these messages, as there isn't enough charge in the battery to turn the engine, and run all the checks and activate sensors (bit like the radio goes off in some cars when starting)

After this happens alot then the battery will never charge back to it's normal level. I would guess that the battery wouldn't really be guaranteed unless something drastic happened (it split!?)

Try either a long run, or an optimizer on the battery. LR did this with our D3 and it solved the probblem...for about a year til the voltage dropped. With the D3 you could check the voltage through the centre screen on a 'secret' diagnostics view! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
