extended warrenty

As I have had the freelander for almost a year now Landrover sent out a reminder for the extended warrenty nearly £600 but now Gordon Lamb have sent one from Auto Protect no price as you have to contact them with the milage As any one had dealings with these,by the way there is a lot in it that is not covered

No experience of Auto Protect but, from experience with Warranty Direct, beware of any company that expects you to pay first and then attempt to claim your money back. Would you be happy to pay £6000 for a replacement engine, on the basis that your insurer might pay out?

Selling Auto Protect's extended warranties, from the dealer's point of view:

http://www.autoprotect.net/profit/

It looks like it's a great deal, from the dealer's perspective at least....

I did the same as you.
I did have a couple of problems outside warranty, expensive ones to.
But L/R did make a contribution so i ended up better off not having extended warranty. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I think the LR extended warranty is very expensive. My BMW 3 series cost 80% more than our FL2 but the extended warranty with recovery is £200 cheaper, and if you think LR dealers are expensive you should try a BMW one Laughing
And its not as if the BMW is particularly reliable or easy to repair - in fact everything is a right game (except the oil filter which is a snitch compared to the FL2).

I beg to differ - I've always had really reasonable treatment from my local BMW dealer and with a bit of haggling all my services on a 6 pot petrol have come in either the same or cheaper than my LR. And my previous BM had the service pack which includes everything for free (even brakes) for 5 yrs - just brilliant!

That's not to say the sales men and women at the same dealer were rubbish and never managed to sell me a car... Rarely did they get even close to some of the other offers I got!

Swings and roundabouts! But I do think that to put faith back into the LR buying public they really ought to up there game on the service side of things. That have a great product now let's see you offering a great service Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Be very careful about extended warrantees and what they actually cover, I can't stress this enough. I had a Kia Sorento and took out an extended warrantee via Kia suggesting a recommended company, not their own.

I had electrical problems which should have been sorted under the Kia warrantee but were not and the third party extended warrantee company refuse to cover the repair . As a point of interest it was to do with engaging 4WD when it snowed and it wouldn't work although supposed to have been fixed by Kia. The wiring underneath had corroded causing the problem and Kia just cut and patched instead of replacing the wiring loom.

SO DO CHECK WHAT EXTENDED WARRANTEES DON'T COVER THERE IS A LOT

when my freelander is 3 years old I am going to put money aside to cover anything that might go wrong and NOT give it to these rip off merchants who don't honour the extended warrantees.

On the positive side, my wife's Peugeot 307cc is now five years old and still covered by Peugeot's extended warranty. Last week was MOT time and under warranty they replaced a bottom ball joint (slack but not an MOT fail), a gearbox driveshaft oil seal (again not an MOT fail) and the DPF fluid tank all without fuss or question. In all about £600s worth.

The only thing the car failed the MOT on was a cut to one tyre on the inside wall. The main dealer replaced the tyre at a price the local tyre companies could not match! Thumbs Up

They also serviced the car (intermediate service) and the total bill including MOT and synthetic oil was £139. I am thinking of sticking a Peugeot badge on the front of the FL2, taking it in and hoping they won't notice! Very Happy John
