To buy or not to buy

Well my FL2 is over 5 years old now and I'm thinking of trading it in for something new.

I can't decide whether to get a new FL2 or something else.
I have had times where iv'e sworn I would never buy another one but it's been pretty good overall, and I enjoy it.

I was thinking alternatives;
Audi Q3/5
BMW X3/5

Or maybe even just a saloon like an Audi A5 or BMW 5 series.

What do you guys think?

In those circumstances, I'd have a really good look around. If you're considering spending 5 Series, Q5 or X5 money, then there are some really nice alternatives before you settle for the default clone German motor.

I was lent a new 5 Series to try for the whole day before I chose the FL2 and it was a car I returned in less than 3 hours Sad If you can live with the fact that RWD is going to get stuck whenever the weather turns bad, how about a Jaguar XF instead?

I couldn't believe how impressed we were with the Disco 4 that our dealership let us try for the weekend recently. An absolutely stunning car and (if I could afford it), I would have had one in a heartbeat.

If a 4x4 is a nice idea, but lack of off road capability isn't important (which is probably the case if a Q3 or X3 is adequate), then what about trying a Volvo XC60 with the wonderful D5, 5 cylinder, 215bhp (149g) diesel?

If you just want a change and are happy to trade usefulness for style and a better driving position, then why not try an Evoque?

Whatever you do, try a new FL2 to compare them with. That way you won't be comparing a new motor with a 5 year old one.

I must admit if I could stomach the fuel economy I would have a Disco 4 or a Range Rover.....

The Disco was returning me 28mpg where the FL2 would have returned around 32mpg, if that helps.

I run a MY12 V6 RRS and am getting a consistant 31mpg, though I don't drive it that hard.

Don't know if it's a coincidence CG, but I did see a group of proud vanners lurking round that same truck at Coniston last week, one of them had a Hacksaw in their hands Exclamation

I would definitely go RRS FFRR or Disco over BMW X5 or Audi if you want another 4x4, they are just as refined and prestigious but they work in mud and snow! Another couple im tempted by next are the current shape Shogun or Landcruiser, although not as refined running costs are reasonable and they are a decent size and very capable.

I can't fault the FL2 after having mine for 3 years but it hasn't changed enough for me to justify spending that much on another 4x4 so similar to the one i have! and more importantly i do want something bigger next.

Wait till the next version is announced, whether it be the FL3, or MY2013/4 RRS

Looking at a 6 month old FL2 with low miles and 5 grand off new price.

Can someone explain what the difference between a TD4e vehicle and an eD4 one is?
