FL 2 rust / corrosion under rear boot door handle

Hi

Has anybody else noticed paint cracking/chipping of from the edges under the rear boot door handle? On my 2008 car the the edges of the handle has broken the paint surface and corrosion started to show. This is really a design issue, which is unfortunately common also on some other cars such as Ford and Citroen . I suppose the best fix is (after re-painting the rear door) to put 3M plastic film or something else in between to stop the handle from rubbing/cracking the paint.

Exactly like that! Unfortunately my car is more than 4 years old and out of warranty...

I think I may have some positive news for you. I have a 56 plate SE. I recently noticed a similar problem around the tailgate handle. The paintwork was blistering and cracking. I took it to my local dealer and without any issue at all they said that it would be sorted under the paintwork warranty. They made a good job of it too. It looks like they put some sort of gasket/sealant under the handle to prevent the movement that caused this in the first place. Suggest you pay a visit to your dealer and get them to have a look. Good Luck

Did you have the entire tailgate repainted? Can you post the picture how the gasket looks like?

I think the FL2 corrosion warranty is 6 years, although the paintwork warranty is 3 years, definitely worth a run to your local dealer.

I have tried to take a photo to show between the boot lid handle and the paintwork but it doesn't show up at all. they Said they were repainting the whole boot lid and it certainly looks like they have. they also ordered new badges for the boot as well. It's got to be worth a trip to the dealer, it worked out for me.

Not a warraanty issue!

I got my reply today from the importer in Finland. As the car is out of warranty paint almost one year (registred in March 2008) this is not a warranty issue. Furthermore it would not qualify for paint warranty anyway as they say that the damages are due to that the handle flexes and scrubs the paint, which is considered an external cause excluded by the warranty terms. It is also not a rust performation warranty issue (still valid as it is 6 years) as there is yet not a rust hole=perforation in the boot lid! On my cousins Citroen a similar fault was corrected even after the warranty had expired...
