Not a good day for Man Utd fans!

Rolling with laughter

City snatch the title in stoppage time just as manu fans were celebrating! I am a neutral so no loyalty to City but winning the league has bagged me £18 that I had almost forgotten about.

I think Utd lost it when they played the top team in Merseyside at Old Trafford three weeks ago, letting a 3-1 lead slip proved costly Whistle

hmmm....top team hey.... you've got me there (this season Smile )

There's a smugness thinking that 16 teams were happy today with the result today Smile

Joey Barton is a complete Censored

If a player can get an 8 week ban for calling people nasty names, what would be the prudent punishment for Barton?
He reminds me of Denis Unwise. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

The "prudent punishment" would be to forget that the incident happened on a football field. It was the action of a thug and should be prosecuted as actual bodily harm through the route that "ordinary" people would be prosecuted - the criminal court. Anyone in "normal" employment found committing such an act whilst at work would be sacked for gross misconduct. Why do we have separate rules for footballers (sorry, nearly said sportsmen then - professional football hasn't been sport for ages).

As for an eight match ban for name calling, compared to the usual three match ban for violent conduct, it's political correctness gone mad. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Well said rjc1944

Compared to other sports, the "sport" of football has a lot to learn about disciplined behaviour, personal integrity (witness the pitiful diving & pretence) and sportsmanship ...

Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies...

The cure has to come from the top - FA should immediately back referees to stamp out diving, swearing (particularly at refs), all violent behaviour and unsportsmanlike conduct. It wouldn't take many red cards to get the message across, particularly if shown to high profile players in big-money clubs. Just look at how strictly the rules are interpreted in golf - and yet the players there are first to call "foul" on themselves. Lawrence Dallaglio once said that the Rugby guys labelled the Premiership as The Andrex Premiership because it's soft and unnecessarily expensive Rolling with laughter

Dallaglio would make mincemeat of Barton in a confrontation. How cool would that be Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Correct but look at what happened in athletics regarding drugs cheats, britain had a lifetime ban on competing in the olympics for those caught cheating with drugs but the IOC has decided that the ban effectively infringed on the athletes right to be a cheating junkie so its no good the FA (and SFA and FAW) standing alone as they will only get "shot down" by FIFA & UEFA and end up paying compensation to those that were banned/fined.
