2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE, For Sale

We have decided to sell our caravan and sell the Freelander Big Cry

It is in about as near perfect condition as you can get for a 1 year old car. Some on the forum have seen the car in the flesh too and we attended the Convoy for Heros last year so some might have seen it there.

Anyway, here is the ad but it is on Autotrader.co.uk too so please hop over to there to see the photos.

Traded it in this afternoon. They gave me £24,000! This car cost us £34,000 1 year ago.

The problem is that the bottom is falling out of the Freelander 2 market because of the success of the Evoque. It seems that so many people are trading in their FL2s for Evoques and the used market is totally flooded with good, low mileage, 1-2 year old FL2s.

I called 10 dealers and got the same story... not buying at any price as they have too much stock.

Oh well...

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

According to LR sales statistics sales of Freelander 2 are holding up well and the majority of Evoque sales are to customers new to the LR/RR brand. The majority of Freelander 2 owners I've met wouldn't be seen in an Evqoue. Trade in prices are nearly always lower at this time of year, particularly for 4x4's when the best time to sell them is late Autumn.

Interesting about Dealers as around here they are advertising to buy in more stock.

I recently traded in my 2007 FL2 GS manual with 45K miles + scratches and dent on wheel arch and got £10K. I only paid £21K when it was new. So it doesnt appear the bottom has fallen out of the market this week at least.

I really don't have a problem with dealers making a profit. They have big overheads and do generally offer a premium level of service over buying privately.

Yes, it might be on the forecourt at £29K but how long will they have to hold it in stock at that price before it sells? Also, what will it actually sell at? As a seller it is a guaranteed way to offload the old car to allow purchase of the new, especially as most people don't have secure, off-road parking on which to store a 2nd car (or 3rd in our case) before it sells.

It is easy to consider dealers the devil in disguise and perhaps your local dealer is, but I think they do, generally speaking, serve a purpose for our advantage.

OK, I am not happy selling at £24k but I prefer that than hang on to it for who knows how long with no certainty of a sale at a higher price.

I know it's not what you meant npinks, but it may comes across as it seems to suggest "Profit from VAT" so just to clarify for any reader:

Motor Traders, or indeed any legally operating VAT registered business does NOT make a profit out of collecting VAT and transferring that tax to HM Treasury. If they do they are trading illegally and subject to criminal prosecution. Fraud.
