Help! Fuel Burning Aux Heater Option

I had my order for an SE auto rejected today as I had ordered the Fuel Burning Heater as an option. Apparently there is a problem with the software for the FBH so the factory will not take any orders.

Choice .... go without the FBH and get an end of March delivery

or .. stick with it and wait for them to fix the problem.

Has anyone had a FBH on other LR's?

Would I really miss it? or is it just a nice to have gadget?

I have FBH on my D3 and expected it to warm the car up quickly but is doesn't, it just stinks. I wouldn't bother, after 3 years it still isn't perfect on the D3 design. Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Auto Stornoway with Ebony and xenons was on order now cancelled.

Disco 3 HSE TDV6 Auto 2007 Model going soon

On my old freelander1 if I did a short run in cold weather the diesel heater continued running when engine switched off, and puffs of smoke came from front of car, the new car doesnt!, different system?

The early D3s had the ability to heat the cabin and it was great, if you do a lot of early starts then I would say definitely go for it. D4 HSE Lux for me
FL2 HSE Zermatt & Alpacca for the wife now gone
Skoda Yeti L&K for the wife.

I suspect the FL2 has some form of auxiliary heating fitted as standard. My XS produces warm air within a few seconds of starting the engine.

I'm surprised at the how quickly the heater warms up on my GS too. Warm air from vents long before the temp gauge starts to move.

The dealer told me there is a kind of auxiliary heater build in by default. This produces heat very quickly, which is allways nice when it's cold outside.

Yes, you are correct. You have what is called a PTC heater, which is used to heat the air after it passes through the heater core.
The fuel burning heater will heat the coolant instead, and is used for vehicles in colder ambients.

Welcome HC001 - I take it then that the standard aux heater is electric. The £400 FBH option only for our friends in Alaska! are the FBH's programmable by remote do you know? (I know that our friends with the RRS have looked into this without much success).

Elephant, yes the PTC is electric. As for FBH, its only really useful in the colder markets or if you want park heating of the FBH, which isn't available on LR2 - only Range Rover.

What does PTC stand for?

I was told the standard electrical warming is rated about 1000 watts, thats not much on a mains suply but its considerable on a 12volt supply.

Believe it or not PTC stands for Positive Temperature Co-efficient. PTC heating elements are small ceramic stones with self temperature limiting characteristics.
