All bar one, and if they replace the hearing aid battery it will be all bar none  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Turkey 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi , I have the same problem since I bought my FL2 in July. After 3 months of "heavy whistle" I had a small accident. While I was stopping at the red light , a woman driving a 76 model WW just tried to get on front of me from the right lane , but she broke my front bumper Smile Fortunately I had my bumper repaired and I have told the service about the noise problem. After the front bumper is fixed , the noise is reduced remarkably but I still have noise when I go up to 140 - 160 km/h. Below and above these speeds are fine .

Hi,
The whistle here is only heard when the car is parked and the engine is off.

I don't know what it is either, except my Cherokee Jeep used to do it too. I put it down to a diesel pressure release though my Merc cdi doesn't whistle - makes lots of other strange noises when it's sitting there, but no whistle!
Maybe it's 4x4 thing! Very Happy 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

It could be a little sailor in the front engine sounding his whistle to say the captain has now left the ship Rolling with laughter

Its the best answer i have had to come up with because nobody know why it does it Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Well, I can confirm that all Freely 2 do whistle for a while when switched off. If you listen carefully, you can hear a "click" when the whistling stopps. It must be an electronic component that whistles prior to cut-off.
Very normal and nothing to worry.

It is from the PWM speed controller for the thermo fans
They continue to run for a short period after shutdown in the temp rises after shutting down
It is most noticeable at shutdown as the PWM is at minimun output

Ive been watcing this thread for some time,if you disconect the fan ecu the noise is still there!most of the sound comes from the abs modulator.and is not a fault,
pulse width modulation is used to control pressure and or vacuum,ie turbo wastgates egr valves via electronics

Not sure where the actual lock is. Could be further down the steering column in the engine bay. I was told by a member of the South Coast LR Club, he's an electrical/electronics engineer so I don't doubt his work unless anyone else knows ant better. Badger
