Hi , I have the same problem since I bought my FL2 in July. After 3 months of "heavy whistle" I had a small accident. While I was stopping at the red light , a woman driving a 76 model WW just tried to get on front of me from the right lane , but she broke my front bumper Fortunately I had my bumper repaired and I have told the service about the noise problem. After the front bumper is fixed , the noise is reduced remarkably but I still have noise when I go up to 140 - 160 km/h. Below and above these speeds are fine . |

Hi, The whistle here is only heard when the car is parked and the engine is off. I don't know what it is either, except my Cherokee Jeep used to do it too. I put it down to a diesel pressure release though my Merc cdi doesn't whistle - makes lots of other strange noises when it's sitting there, but no whistle! Maybe it's 4x4 thing! 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good! |

It could be a little sailor in the front engine sounding his whistle to say the captain has now left the ship

Well, I can confirm that all Freely 2 do whistle for a while when switched off. If you listen carefully, you can hear a "click" when the whistling stopps. It must be an electronic component that whistles prior to cut-off.

Not sure where the actual lock is. Could be further down the steering column in the engine bay. I was told by a member of the South Coast LR Club, he's an electrical/electronics engineer so I don't doubt his work unless anyone else knows ant better. Badger |
