contrary to expectation I have been to a UK caravan site, Scotton nr Harrogate, what a display, vans lined up like some kind of brookside housing estate, a dismal looking brick built toilet/shower block - ok very clean and hygienic inside but still communal.

Horses for courses! We use our caravan for about a 100 days a year! Site fees about £10.00 per night. We use CL's. We travel to France for a month! Suits our life style. We still use the bird in the sky to get further to the south. I know that I prefer caravanning as it gives us total freedom., And as for the F2, well it tows as well as our Disco, and is much cheaper. 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten.

we have been taking our Caravan to France, Switzerland & Spain for over 20 years & had the most memorable holidays. Our Kids have grown up & now work but still come with us on a months holiday each year to France, we mostly manage, tunnel crossing, site fees & hook up including red pennant + insurance for around 1100 yes for a month for 4 adults + fuel & food.

![]() ![]() people all all different but I regularly drive past a local van site, on a farm track right along side the mesh fence holding the captives in, the typical guest at that site does indeed site round all day watching tv.from the tractor cab you can see all the tiny screens in the vans and awnings. When I go past all the bored kids come and cling to the fence, the close proximity of a shiney tractor being the highlight of their day. At work ![]() At home ![]() "I can't always believe facts I read on the web" - Charles Dickens winner by default of the tractor vs caravan race |

point taken there, that sounds much better. honestly the local van site is just a field jammed with vans. I do not see what pleasure is to be had there.

Our last van depreciated at £1000 a year, if only the car could depreciate at that rate, the more you use it the cheaper it becomes. We try to get way around once a month be it just for a weekend or our main holiday, we were away at Easter, away next week, then onto France for Whitsun, July, August in the Peaks, that's all we have arranged so far, but we can make a quick decision and go, the van sits on the drive, plugged in to the mains, Fridge ready, clothes in, all we have to do is put in the food and were gone. Each to there own |
