Canberra trip 19th May

I have to be in Canberra on the weekend 19th and 20th of May. I am going to take the FL2 up to the Brindies and do Mt Coree, Flea Creek and Macintyre's Hut. For anyone who hasn't done them, it is a rollercoaster scenic drive on bush tracks that get quite steep in places which makes them interesting and a little scary if you haven't done it before. There are creek crossings as well. The view from Mt Coree is absolutely awesome. I'm thinking a 10am saturday start in Canberra somewhere with the drive lasting most of the day. Anyone wishing to tag along is quite welcome. Cheers.

Very Happy Mt Coree is an aboriginal name. Whoever named Flea Creek must have had a bad insect problem at the time and Mcintyres Hut is exactly what it says, a fellow named Mcintyre built a little hut in the bush next to the river last century...er that would be 2 centuries ago in he 1800's. The hut is still there and maintained as a refuge place for anyone getting stuck in the weather. All inside the Brindabella National Park (aboriginal name again), where there are very bad bush fires in the summer and it snows a lot in the winter. The Brindabella Ranges provide a very scenic backdrop to Canberra.

It's a pity we don't get to drive to places like Blubberhouses in Nth Yorkshire, Diggle near Manchester or Batchelors Bump in Sussex. Very Happy You guys in the UK win the funny names contest although I did grow up in Wagga Wagga (pronounced wogga).

PS I was driving along the M4 motorway in western Sydney the other day and a Toyota Troopy with a camper on the back went past me. It had French number plates and was left hand drive. I was sitting there dreaming of the adventure he must have been having. Cheers. Smile

My part of the World (well it use to be!). I know Fingeringhoe well Wink
Just not heard of Dancing Dicks though - thankfully!

My fave at the moment is a town called "Muff" in Ireland... I'm even a fan of the Muff Diving Club on Facebook Mr. Green

HI Mike. I'm planning another camping trip into the Snowy Mountains again this winter and if I can get enough time off, I would love to take a few side trips. Hence, I might get in touch beforehand for a few tips on where to go. This will be the 2nd time I'll take the small caravan as the camper trailer just shook too much in the wild winds that sweep off the mountains thru the valleys where the camp sites are. The van burns up a lot more fuel on the tow compared to the CT but the added comfort when the temperatures dip below -5C make it worth it.
