today i was driving on to the m56 going to the sirport and joined the motorway at a reasonable speed and the next minute from nowhere comes a ford focus that i had just cut up really bad.i waved my arms very apolagetically and then realised how bad the blind spot is on the fl2....i wont make that mistake again but it was close,anyone had any problems...ps the blind spot i am on about is the drivers side pillars...

i do find the car has a large blind spot and a glance over the should is difficult due to the pillar

Yep, agreed - I thought it was just me, I've nearly been caught out by the blind spot as well.

does the fl2 not have a split screen mirror to fill the blind spot?

CG Mine doesn't and neither have any of the others i have seen

Yep geoffk; scarily I've done that once too .... much to close for comfort ... suddenly seeing a van appear at speed from nowhere really made me jump!  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

I've always preferred to have my mirrors so that i can just see down the side of the vehicle. However, the company i work for is always pushing out safety items and one we received several months ago was about the door mirrors. Normally, you have a large blind spot with the position we all have the mirrors in, but if you turn them a bit more to square with the side, it creates 2 narrow blind spots instead of the 1 large one. With peripheral vision, door mirror, rear view mirror and 2 narrow blind spots, it increases your view.
It takes a bit getting used to but it can improve visibility... Out with the old (2007 SE)
In with the new (2012 Dynamic with everything). Now also gone.

The Freely 2 sold here in Germany do have the split screen outside mirrors to avoid the blind spots left and right. The mirror glasses are easy to change I have been told but not cheap due to the heating.

i was today phoned by landrover customer care to ask if everythink is going well with my car and do i have any problems. i told them about what happened with me and the reply was we will look into this even if its just to put a warning in the owners handbook.does anyone reckon they already know about it...

I had almost had very similar incident and have now adopted a quick lean forward and look round the pillar approach - but it's best to leave a little extra room to the vehicle in front just in case it brakes suddenly whilst one is looking behind however briefly - these things happen so fast.

Think I might be investing in an extra mirror at some point soon! I'll be trying some of the suggestions made here but advice on any further solutions would be greatly appreciated.

i have pondered on the fact that the fl2 in germany has the blind spot mirrors, i might see if i can get lenses.
