Lloyd does this too...
I suggest you report it back to the dealer. Tell them if they don't know what the fix is, to log it with JLR.

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Rimini Red

Acceleration lag on roundabouts was more pronounced on my previous 57 model than my current 2010, both auto, both used second as default from stop. Still causes a problem on odd occasions. I have quite a gentle driving style most of the time. Is it the 'learning' transmission?? JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

For the same reason it can't be 'torque reduction' as it should still move immediately, there is just an inbuilt electronic throttle delay for some other reason Confused .

If you read this Alex, what's your take on it Question Is it environmental and emissions Question

Mrs worms ford ka used to have a horrible throttle lag but it was clearly noticeable even when blipping the throttle in neutral ... Unles there is something wrong our fl's should not do this...

EY is your delay on an auto? I believe some models mechanically disengage the gearbox when standing still so as not to waste energy and put stress on the torque converter - maybe the lag you are seeing is the box engaging gear? A way to overcome this (on an auto) is to preload the tc by increasing revs whilst stamping on the brake - let go with your foot mashed to the floor and you will fly off the line... I just would not recommend it if you want it to last!!!

Otherwise I tend to let the car roll and take up drive before mashing the throttle from stand still - this way you avoid the lag in take up.... I know this has moved from a 'manual' to 'auto' discussion a little but I haven't experimented as yet with the different options of reducing/eliminating the delay, and in normal driving it is unnoticeable. It's just when you need to merge into the heavy traffic at a roundabout that I notice it and its also when my throttle foot is on the brake ready to swap over to the throttle, then its hard down on the throttle, nothing happens then a surge of power Twisted Evil
That delay is very small but noticeable and I'm not sure why its there Confused

Lloyd is manual.
Also speaking to my neighbours "William" also has this undesirable feature, he is also a manual.

A diesel engine, besides an injection quantity and an injection timing map, also has a smoke map.
This in order to corect the first two maps for tight emissions and less smoke on hard acceleration(s).
From tickover, a diesel engine, in order to quickly build up RPMs, needs a quite big quantity of fuel. (It has to to with the fact that diesel fuel doesn't burn so quickly as gasoline, but this is another topic...)
But a bigger quantity of fuel injected will translate in a quite big quantity of smoke, which is not allowed and it is in contradiction with the smoke map (at least from factory) because of the tighter emission's control.
Like Captain Worm said, this will be visible even when blipping the throttle in neutral.

Well explained as usual Alex - I understand why the delay is programmed in at the manufacturing stage.

But what if I .... er .... a friend wanted to override this delay to improve throttle response and safety?
Hypothetically speaking of course Whistle Cheers,

United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Santorini Black

Sounds like a very annoying scenario I had with my FL2 that no one could tell me what it was (for a year anyway). It is like Turbo lag & seems to do it when changing from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd & 3rd to 4th. There is a lack of responce from the throttle for a second or so but bloody annoying! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I would imagine for pre DPF Freelanders that could well be a possibility, and maybe just as easily with DPF cars but with them the smoke and soot created could possibly block the DPF early and cause other problems.

Thanks EY, Mum is doing really well. Her first week of chemo has gone ok (no side effects...yet). Only 5months 4 weeks to go. One day at a time eh?

Really logical explanation for the delay. thanks Alex!
