Hi everyone, I have just taken delivery of a 2012 SD4 S, automatic, here in Abruzzo, Italy. (Not sure if the basic S is available in the UK with the SD4 spec?) Very pleased so far, four river crossings this morning and a very steep rutted muddy hill. The lovely white bodywork already needs a good clean! Anyone else out there with a Freelander in this neck of the woods?

Afternoon all, raining heavily here and cricket cancelled so I thought I would join the Forum and as for some advice. Been a Freelander owner since 2003, this morning gave the green light to dealer on buying FL2 07. Very pleased but need roof bars fitting so he is purchasing and fitting for me. Are the non genuine parts ok with regard to front to back bars. Also can a a factory fitted tow bar being taken off and refitted on a freelander 2. The one on the 07 looksan awful goose neck thing. Hope someone can advise.

Thank you for the welcome Dunkley201. Couldn't buy a black one...they get too hot in the Summer! Anyway, its when you clean them that you really get to see any faults etc. . I saw elsewhere that a UK LR dealer had quoted £800 to install a towbar. I have had the same rip off quote here, Eu 1000. I guess I will be sourcing the kit I need from the Uk.

You can get much cheaper in UK than the £800 quoted, lots of independents here at half the price.
Come for a trip over, I am sure we can get a big order for Montepulciano together

Taztastic....yes, the wine from this area is superb, the oive oil too. However, the fuel and autostrada costs are pretty heavy, Eu 1.76 a litre here today for diesel....cheaper to fly with sleazy jet and handcarry back here. Do you know this part of Italy? Perfect for offroading.

Sadly, Italy is one country I have little experience of.
I am fortunate that I get to travel to many countries, one thing to note, with the advent of the Internet prices everywhere are becoming very similiar.

Great off roading, your lucky, that is a luxury we in the UK are rapidly losing, we have a rising population of risk averse bunny huggers, hell bent on saving the planet.

Hi All

Just bought a Freelander 2 after owning a disco 1 and 2 for the past 15 years. This is definitely a more refined vehicle than the other two. I hope it goes as well off road. I hope to use it for holidays and some gentle off roading in addition to everyday driving.

My first problem is mounting some mountain bikes. The previous discoverys had tow bars and therefore rear racks were an easy solution. This car has neither tow bar on roofrails and I would rather not buy either. Any advice?

I'd deffo go for a towbar being fitted and using a tow bar mounted rack!

Expensive... maybe (depends on if you can get away with an aftermarket fixed tow bar that doesn't interfere with your sensors) but much much less hassle - especially if you cycle much!

Biggest benefits being:

1. ease of fitting carrier
2. ease of chucking bikes on
3. no mud dropping on the roof of your shiny FL2 on way back home

I've had and seen bad experiences with the boot mounted options out there... dents, scratches and recommendations from manufacturers to "tighten straps" every hour on the road scare the hell out of me. On a quest to tour the Caravan club sites of the country in my FL2... if only to find a younger CC member! :-/

Personally I own a subaru waggon and the missus has the freelander, however when things go wrong tis I that usually sorts them out.

After reading a few posts this evening I have found out some useful tips, heres hoping the one to stop the seatbelt bong was not an april fool!

Just joined the forum, I traded in my 06 plate Disco 3 for a 60 plate Freelander2 HSE over the weekend. Really enjoying the Freelander, so much nippier than the Disco (and the cost saving!!). Looking forward over the next few weeks of getting out off road around the farms and fields I shoot over to see how it compares to the Disco

Just got the new satnav disc [2011-2012] from landrover. Put it in the DVD and it tells me I need an update.
Can anybody tell me if this is normal or is there anyway around the problem.  Des

Hello and welcome. This is quite normal. Just leave the disc in and if it is a genuine decent disc it will update the system for you. It normally takes about 15 minutes but can sometimes take longer. John
