LR Assist

Anyone called out LR Assist lately?

I was surprised to see the AA turn up. When I last did it 4 years ago I had a guy come along in a fully equipped Discovery.

Do they still exist or does it depend on what type of problem you have? Mine was just reduced engine perfomance so the AA man had a basic diagnostic tool to get the code (P244A) and reset it. He did arrive in less than 15 minutes which was good. However I'm not sure if they are fully equipped if it had been anything more serious.

I've never had the need of them yet, but their site does say "where practical". I suppose that can be a copout clause to cover anyone. Smile

Whenever practical, Land Rover Assistance will send a Land Rover trained technician, whether you are at home or on the road. If the problem cannot be resolved at the roadside, we will take your vehicle to the nearest Land Rover dealer/Authorised Repairer or to the one nearest to your home address in the UK.

I called them out for my XF when the drive selector was stuck in park. What I thought was a regular AA man in a VW transporter turned out to be a JLR expert who arrived in 15 minutes. It turns out they are regular AA mechanics who are specifically trained by JLR.
Transpired my gear selector (soon to be cascaded into other LR products) was first generation and not too reliable. The fix was to spank it hard and follow my to the nearest Jag dealer who lent me like for like replacement car while mine was fixed. It worked for me and I cant imagine a Land Rover or Jaguar mobile technician could have done any better?

Land Rover Assist Technicians with their Discovery's do still exist, I was chatting to one only a few days ago. There are not that many of them which is why you will sometimes be attended to by a standard AA technician. Better the AA than an inordinate delay waiting for a LR Assist Tech to become available.

I used one on Easter Sunday, fully equipped Disco 4, trained by LR but paid by the AA, LR put it out to tender nearly three years ago, they kept the LR boys, they carry all the diagnostic gear and a few parts, more importantly, know what they are doing, better than a Jack of All. Wink

Big-al,

Sort of, except it was orange! Didn't see the make.

It showed the code but he said he didn't have the specialist laptop to do anything else.

I guess in this instance the speed of the AA was better than waiting for a land rover person who probably couldn't have done anymore.

sounds like he could read the codes but not clear them, i can understand that he needed Land Rover to fix this issue at that code is the ( DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE TOW LOW)

if you have a code and need to find out what it stands for try here

Sorry for the delay............. yep it is exactly the same drive selecter as in my XF, from the outside. Internally it must be second generation as they were upgraded recently after a high failure rate as testified by mine and the XF owners forum.

The other question is what tool - he just spanked it with his fist and up it came! JLR approved for a 'rescue' apparantly?

sounds like they haven't fixed the fault, bloke over on RRSport couldn't get the dial to turn and was stuck for 2 hours on two occassions, not good for a brand new £70k RRSport Shocked

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Sumatra Black

My old man had a problem on his XF with the drive selector dial and they sent out a JAG/LR assist disco man who eventually replaced the unit.

I've had LR assist out on my FL2 back in Jan/Feb and when I called them up they said the disco men weren't available till the next day as they had finished for the evening but could send me a AA man with certified equipment etc to look at the issue for me. So AA tend to do the overflow/night work for LR it would seem. Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual MY11 - 61REG Stratstone Mayfair
