I called them out for my XF when the drive selector was stuck in park. What I thought was a regular AA man in a VW transporter turned out to be a JLR expert who arrived in 15 minutes. It turns out they are regular AA mechanics who are specifically trained by JLR.

Land Rover Assist Technicians with their Discovery's do still exist, I was chatting to one only a few days ago. There are not that many of them which is why you will sometimes be attended to by a standard AA technician. Better the AA than an inordinate delay waiting for a LR Assist Tech to become available. |

I used one on Easter Sunday, fully equipped Disco 4, trained by LR but paid by the AA, LR put it out to tender nearly three years ago, they kept the LR boys, they carry all the diagnostic gear and a few parts, more importantly, know what they are doing, better than a Jack of All. |

Sorry for the delay............. yep it is exactly the same drive selecter as in my XF, from the outside. Internally it must be second generation as they were upgraded recently after a high failure rate as testified by mine and the XF owners forum.

sounds like they haven't fixed the fault, bloke over on RRSport couldn't get the dial to turn and was stuck for 2 hours on two occassions, not good for a brand new £70k RRSport |

My old man had a problem on his XF with the drive selector dial and they sent out a JAG/LR assist disco man who eventually replaced the unit.
