Although I've never posted loads on this forum I read it virtually every day. It has been a fantastic source of information and at times humour and that is why I have returned time after time.

The reason for this posting is that it looks like I will have to sell my Freelander 2 as we have just had twins born, albeit they are in special care at the moment and we also have a three year old daughter. The Freelander 2 is simply the best car I've ever had and this is why we are on our second. The issue we have is that we cannot fit three child seats in row two and we don't think that we would have enough room for all of the paraphenalia that goes along with three children under three. We would love to have a D4 or even a late D3 but the purchase cost and running costs would push us somewhat so inevitably we may have to move away from the brand.

So...Would anyone out there be able to advise on what we should get privately for our Freelander 2. The spec is:
60 Reg (Sept 2010) (MY10)
GS
Black
28k miles
FLRSH
with the following extras:
Full size alloy spare
DAB Radio
Front parking sensors
Cold climate pack (heated screen & washers)

Alternatively, if someone wants to make me a (sensible) offer please feel free.

A What Car? valuation on mine was £19,291 sold private. Mine is a 10 plate GS with cold climate pack and 18k miles, FLRSH, full size alloy spare but no front sensors or DAB radio.

To be honest, the extras won't make much difference if anything at all at re-sale time but with a private sale it might make a bit of difference.

Yours being a 60 plate should be slightly higher than the quote I got (not selling mine, I was just curious) so try the What Car? free valuation and see what it says.

Congratulations with the twins So sorry that you're having to move away from a car that you like so much though, while there could be a solution to luggage space, the car seat thing is definitely the insurmountable problem.

To be honest, I never noticed any difference in running costs between the FL2 and D3.

The D4 on the other hand is a different animal altogether, extra power with a heavy right foot that likes to use it does result in lower mpg........about 6 - 8 mpg less.............but it does put a bigger smile on your face  ______________________

Bad news you are thinking of moving away however... How much research have you done into the seat arrangement and have you found something you can fit all three in?

The reason I ask is that I moved to an FL2 because it is amongst the widest 2nd row (bar the really big cars, D3/4, x5s, xc90s etc) without buying an MPV. We currently have a group2 seat (was a group 1), a booster and a group2-3 seat in ours and we regularly go on long family hols (last year south of france) with the 5 of us, and whilst the boot is not massive, stacked to the roof it was big enough for all our stuff.

Admittedly we don’t have 3 under 3 but it might be worth a look.

Either way whatever car you go for, you can be assured that you will need to test your seat combination.

You could also try a multimac multimac.co.uk.. not cheap (but probably cheaper than selling yours) but guaranteed to fit you all in, whatever your car.


If like me you like cars then unless you have very deap pockets then there really is not much choice out there that will fit three children in the back... All I would say is do your research, test any car with the seats that you plan to use and if need be look at different seats as they can be very differenbt

They are based down the road from me...

We nearly got one for my 3 series but decided we needed decent size boot and a hatch as well.

They are a really good product and the owner of the company is very passionate about his product In a way it is ashame that they are not more wide spread, but I think he does OK driving up and down the country in his beat up volvo and a trailer showing of his invention.

In all seriousness I thought they were very good. A tad on the pricey side (c.1k) but then you could spend that on 6 or more seats throughout the life of the children and you dont need to change your car. Also he will trim the seats to match your car (if thats what takes your fancy!)

I'm in no way afiliated with the company but I think it is a great product and the company deserve a bit of a break in my mind..

Congrats on the Twins mr_smith. Hope they give you as much joy as our daughters twins (and other two children aged 2 and 7) do. Our daughter and son-in-law currently have a Disco 3 but to be honest they find it very tight fitting all four kids, themselves and all the kit required. Fortunately our son-in-law is in the motor trade and is currently renovating a VW Transporter. Not to everyones taste but it will provide sufficient space.Good luck with the family - many sleepless nights ~I think
