I thought the Disco 1 was awful to look at and drive, the Disco 2 was better to look at and I liked the TD5 engine (when it worked Whistle ) The Disco 3 was okay, but too underpowered. Whereas the all new Disco 4 is a great car. Let's hope it's more reliable than it's predecessors Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

You liked the TD5 but though the D3 was underpowered...the D3 would run rings round a TD5! I think the D4 looks a bit too blingy...D3 was designed, D4 they just added fairy lights and shiny parts which don't work. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Whilst the D3 was/is a great 4x4 it is seriously dated now and isn't a patch on the D4.

As for the bling, can't see any on mine plus whatever shiny parts there are do work. ______________________

If the funds could run to it, I would love a Disco 4. Back in the real world I'm happy to "make do" with the Freelander though Wink

I wish them every success with the event Thumbs Up

More fond memories really, back in the days when 4x4's were meant to be gutless. The D3 is a nice enough car, but was always destined to be lacklustre, only having 10% more torque than the FL2, but weighing in at the best part of tonne more. I drive one at work and find it hard going, but it sounds nice. The D4 is the complete package. The looks may not be everyone's taste, but it's one hell of a nice, relaxing car to drive. It's everything the D3 should have been. The performance and economy figures speak for themselves. Personal choice I guess Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

D3 and D4 look crap in my opinion the side looks awful just a big slab of metal. Anyway guys for your information Land Rover was really struggling in the 1980's and early 90's until they bought out the discovery one. Personally I think they're great motors, if it wasn't for these cars we wouldn't have the D4. You cant compare a 20 year old car to the D4.

chrisdeeming:

Don't get me wrong, I like the look of the Series 1 and (especially) the Series 2 and would be very happy to own one and the 3 and 4 are slab sided, but, when I follow a S1 or S2 it does look like a square box perched awkwardly on top of running gear from a different car - which, I suppose in reality, is the truth! In addition, the rear end never lost the look of a Maestro van, imposed on it by the very first ones having to have the van tail lamps.

The S3 and S4, on the other hand, looks much less awkward and "top heavy".

What you say about the S1 is quite true Tigger but it worked! I had a S! for years and loved it. It saved Land Rover from financial meltdown and they had to raid other people's parts bins to build the thing due to money being tight. The door catches/locks were all GM from the Bedford CF van I think. The 200 Tdi motor was a gem but even so the design team had to lie to senior management to get it built. I think they said they were just re-designing the crank from the 2.5 TD. John

Like I say, don't get me wrong here; being critical of the S1 & S2 Disco is like criticising an old friend Sad

You're probably aware already, but much of the floor pan was Range Rover classic, as was the windscreen and much of the bullhead, while the headlamps were originally from a Sherpa van!

hehehe Smile anyway so we all agree that they were good cars. Back to the discussion in hand, the d4 is a good car I just cant help feel landrover are moving away from real 4x4's to blinged up chrome beasts with fairy lights lol. I know they have to move on and change with the times and to be fair the cars still do the job. I am just going to miss the old styles, maybe I'm just getting old ( in my 20's ) lol...

If only there was room for this one in my garage Rolling Eyes

http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic77894.html

There are going a bit blingy but, unfortunately, it's what most of the buyers of new ones want. Strangely enough, I preferred the D4, but now I'm not so sure if the D3 doesn't all the better for the purity of its design.

Of the current Range Rover, there is no debate; so little has actually been changed, but it's crossed the line to into bad taste territory Sad
