In the past with different cars and all being manuals, I never burnt out a clutch but reversing a caravan no matter how gently did leave a 'smell', the reverse on all cars are a higher ratio than 1st gear and you can't but help slip the clutch otherwise manoeuvring becomes too fast for accuracy.
This is my first ever 'Auto' and reversing with a 'van' is a doddle and even though I say it myself, I'm pretty damn good at it . No need for a motor mover but I can see its advantages when needed to park at home for instance in tight spaces.

The day that I pull up to a pitch and have to unhook and get on a pitch with the mover is the day I pack it in. Saying that I had a mover fitted to the current van as when I put it on the drive it involves a reversing up hill and at the time I had a Manual Freely that's why I bought the mover, prior to that, reversing it up the hill with the TD5 on tick over was an absolute doddle.

Got to be an auto for towing. Both our Land Rovers are autos, and towing the caravan with either is no problem at all!

That chicken farmer will disagree I expect as I mentioned caravans! 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten.

I tow with a manual. My only complaint is that the rubbish handbrake can make hill starts very interesting. Would not be a problem with an auto. 2007 TD4 SE Manual Santrini Black
