It would cost GB Ltd a great deal of much needed revenue not to mention Worldwide bad publicity. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

that is just not sense, do you really think the world will worry enough about it?

bear in mind that the publicity will all be directed at the positives concentrating on the events and atheletes etc. and very little coverage will go to some mindless protest about fuel.

europe as a whole has issues with oil costs and taxation due to the irresponsible lending by Banks, mainly in the USA.

We have to support the Olympics , even if ,like me you think they are a bad idea.

If it does not succeed then we all lose and will pay one way or another.

Who in government due you mean precisly?

Maybe you mean all the public service workers ...

I thought taxes were there to pay to run the country, surely the goverment officials earn salaries , which are public knowledge, and have expenses now monitored by an independent body.

Bear in mind who got us into the mess we are in now ,was Cameron in charge then ?

Let's not turn this into a political battleground folks.

Let's just nuke Tehran and see what effect that has on fuel prices. Shocked (Do not take seriously - just kidding) LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Re the title of this thread: "Fuel Protest Brewing"

Imagine what would be the response across Blighty if you'd experienced an increase in fuel pump prices, however caused (taxation, duty, corporate profit, retailer margin, raw material costs etc) in the last 4 years to see your litre of petrol increase by seventy three percent.

Yes that's absolutely correct. Since taking office President Olbama has seen "gas" (petrol) prices paid at the pumps across the USA increase by an average of 73% - clearly that average will mean in some States the increase has been greater than that. Yet, where is the mass public hysteria calling for his head. Where is the primary media coverage demanding retribution.

It doesn't happen - because unlike the UK and its centralised economy steered by the Chancellor doing the PM's bidding, it is the decentralised taxation freedom that the individual States enjoy that impact on the retail prices of their gas. So starting from the raw material cost every other component in the retail price chain is driven by local State economies.

Now think how that would work in the UK - you wouldn't have a "Fuel Protest" you'd be experiencing "Fuel Riots" driven by raw jealousy and simple greed.

When i was in the states last year I was filling up a Chevey SUV for around $40.00 My FR2 takes nearly £100 from empty.
America has had incredibly cheap fuel for far too long. Its all very well saying they have had a 70% increase, your quote is just like the brainwashed government ! 70% of almost nothing aint much !

As "bigalf" says we are being shafted, we are taxed 14% higher than any other country on our fuel !
we have the most economical cars and our emissions are some of the lowest.

The government are running out of money because of all the wasted funds on Public sector pensions, NHS supporting new arrivals to the UK often in poor health & too many benefit scroungers, not helped by the cost of fuel making work very difficult for some.

WE have 4 cars, we all work in different directions & no public transport so our spend is huge on fuel, its nearly £1000 a month now, when you calculate how much is tax and how much tax we have already paid on earning my girls are saying for them its not worth working ! buy the time they calculate how much they spend on just getting to work and back the balance is broken now !
If they give up quite frankly I Dont blame them as i gave up a well paid job due to the cost of commuting was obscene, so less tax paid now & less tax on fuel paid.
Strange thing is when i gave up work & tighten my belt I found it was cheaper living at home not working than spending everyday commuting.
A massive protest is required to say enough is enough ! otherwise as bigalf says we will be bent over forever !
