Headlamp beam adjusters

Have just installed new projector headlamps on my HSE 2010. I know how to align the beam pattern on headlamps, but am confused by the beam adjustment fittings. There are two adjusters on each headlamp, both give vertical adjustment only and no horizontal. My left main beam is higher than the right one, is this normal? Both dipped beams are ok .

Just looked at my old ones they have the same adjusters V1 and V2 ( 1.2* down angle, giving a 12cm drop at 10 metres) has anyone adjusted their headlamps lately? Has anyone got any tech info on headlamp adjustments?

thanks guys Thumbs Up

It is just an impression. The horizontal one moves diagonally actually. Adjust it first.
The outermost one (near the turn signal) is for horizontal. See below.

It is very easy to get the bulbs mounted at an angle if the locating tabs are not ... erm ... located properly Laughing
I managed to do this on both my H7 bulbs when upgrading - the beams were far too low.
Have a look through the lense and see if they are in square - bet you a chocolate Santa they're not Wink

If you really do need to adjust them, there are two large recessed allen bolts on top of each headlight - inner ones are for vertical alignment, outers for horizontal Cheers,
Raz

If lights were OK before you fitted new bulbs,
Slacken securing bolts and check lamp clicked into place.
Look for crimp marks made by bolt/washer on plastic panel and use as guide when positioning lamp.

Would reccomend you fit H11 to the dip beams, the H7 are for main. All FL2's (3) Gone

Is there a distance that you need to be from a wall to adjust them correctly?
I had a complete right lamp unit replaced and it now doesn't look to have the cutoff as sharp as the left one. Also, I have a darker spot (area not illuminated correctly on the road) right in the middle of my view while driving at night.

Any ideas?

BTW I am in the US and LHD

Thanks Cuatro Por Cuatro

The best method I have found is to park facing a fence or non reflective garage door - about 20 feet is good. You can then make a direct comparison between left & right headlight patterns. If they are different then adjust using the two adjusters described previously, but check the lamps are seating properly first or you will be doing it again in half an hour Laughing

It is worth mentioning that the quality of lamp can be a major factor - some of the cheaper ones place the filament out of the 'sweet spot' of the reflector which changes the beam pattern significantly, so use a good quality lamp like Philips, Osram etc Cheers,
Raz

Check the bulb is fitted correctly. Sometimes they can be (unknowingly) poorly seated, leading to the symptoms you describe. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Just got back from the LR Dealership. They said they connected the car to some "mirrors" and it has now been adjusted correctly.
Here is a picture of the results.
LR2 is at about 10meters from the wall

What ya think?
