France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

The Haldex allows the Freelander 2 to be permanent 4 wheel drive with the bonus of being a 'part time' system when not needed.
The Freelander 1 used a Haldex system that was reactive and needed wheel slip to operate, whereas the 2006/7 Freelander 2 is pro-active and with it's sensors can lock up before slippage can occur. In 2009 Freelander 2's went to another generation of Haldex that is faster still in transmitting torque to the rear and individual wheels,

The torque between front and back wheels is infinitely variable and if conditions wanted it, it could switch 100% torque to the rear but under normal conditions it is biased 90-95% towards a front wheel drive. It is an 'on demand' system that will put the full torque where needed within 150ms.

The Terrain Response programs pre-set the front/rear torque and adjusts as it sees fit.

Being in pedant mode, I think the Freelander 1 had a viscous coupling not a Haldex Whistle ....unless someone knows better..... John

drive cannot be stopped to the front so in reality the max split is 50:50 At work

You are right JST, a reactive viscous coupling Thumbs Up

CG, from the Haldex explanation,

The 'Power transfer unit' sits at the gearbox end transfers front to back as needed, this is where the front half shafts and rear propshaft is sited

Of course I'm only researching this and could be as wrong as I might be right, so welcome anybody's views Thumbs Up in the end we all learn something.

that isnt shifting the power from the front to the back, its the rare case when both front wheels get no grip so the load is all on the back wheels At work

basically the rears either join in partially or fully. when they are fully joining in its 50:50, there is nothing in the car that is capable of sending drive to the rears without turning atleast one front wheel . At work

basically the prop to the rear wheels can only turn when the fronts do, the haldex at the rear decides if and when to sent some of that force to the rears At work
