Should 2007 Freelanders...be avoided

I have been doing some research whilst looking for Freelander and is it the opinion that all 2007 Models should be avoided due to possible gearbox issues?

Many thanks

no reason too , clutch/fly wheel maybe worn but then again it may have been replaced already, by that rational you should avoid 08 fl2's as their clutches may been worn and not replaced.

manual and a towbar - avoid any age. clutch will be worn out due to towing the dreaded caravan At work

My 07 SE manual box has over 57K on the clock and has been nothing other than a real treat to own and drive. I have a towbar and caravan and feel quite comfortable with these. Perhaps it is because I still have an extended warranty that I don't have problems! In that case, it is money well spent.

I have an 07 HSE and the only issues I have had have been the leaking high level brake light and tailgate switch failing. Both of which are easily fixable and are not just an 07 problem.

The manual gearbox is sweet and silent. John

Had my 2007 over a year now, 70k on the clock and it seems to be running ok with the exception of the HDC fault coming up on cold mornings but I'm thinking about changing the battery so hopefully this will fix it.

Has anyone got a warranty from a third party like warranty direct and are they worth the money or just a con? I had been told that 2007 models were prone to clutch problems so was wondering if buying a warranty was worth it?

07 HSE - just under 80,0000 no major problems, had for it 3 years, one or two warranty jobs done in the first year and all is well, however you'll end up paranoid ( like me) listening out for all the creaks, whizziing and popping after reading all the posts on the forum Laughing best car I have ever had Thumbs Up

I have a 56 plate se manual with towbar coming up to 70k now, drives like a dream (touch wood) As my previous post a do get abit of wheel spin CG thinks it may be the clutch but that's expected I suppose. I do alot of towing anyway.. (not a caravan though lol)

IMHO I don't think you should rule them out, All cars have niggles if your buying from a dealer then i wouldn't worry if you buying from a family car garage etc.. I would leave 3k in your pocket for any unseen problems. When these vehicles go wrong they cost alot so its always best to have a comprehensive warranty with LR Jaguar. Don't think these AA warrantys will cover you for anything they're just Censored !!

Just to join the "satisfied" throng - but hoping that I am not tempting fate by doing so - 57 SE plus towbar, runs beautifully, have reassuring LR Warranty (which I will extend in October, just in case). Am becoming unduly obsessed with FL2 - such a pleasure to drive. Pity LR don't address the obvious (and oft denied) "issues" which these cars have and realise that they have actually designed something special. Its only the poor reliability reputation, focused on some common and correctable flaws (and, perhaps, the fuel economy) that is negative, otherwise it's a world class vehicle.
