If a source of power is attached to any wheel you can induce wheel spin - LR's are not immune to the laws of physics.

Traction control should stop it fairly quickly though?

Athelstan is right, when torque exceeds grip, the wheels will spin. FL2 is far better than most because of the torque split going to the rear during drive away (even when TR is in "normal") but the nose is lifting so weight comes off the front wheels and traction control won't react until the wheelspin as started.
Have you ever been in a muddy, grassy field and had all four wheels spinning while making embarassingly slow progress? If there's not enough grip at the surface, it doesn't matter how many wheel drive you've got! Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

traction control is on all the time i think I'm probably in need of a new clutch as its biting point is very high Sad

I've had 2 manual Freelanders and on normal road driving have not experienced any wheelspin when pulling away.

On a LR Experience session I've seen a Freelander doing an indicated 20 mph with all 4 wheels spinning on wet grass but that was done deliberately as part of a demo. Under normal circumstances the Freelander is remarkably good at minimising wheelspin through engagement of Traction Control which will engage and disengage as the brakes are applied to the wheel that is spinning. If TC is on all the time that suggests a fault which requires further investigation as TC should only come on momentarily as and when it is needed.

If you haven't done a LR Experience session it would be worth your while trying to get one as the instructors will be able to talk you through how the Freelander works on and off road and explain what is going on under the vehicle.

I have one junction near me that I can induce wheel spin very very easily but the circumstances are pretty exceptional and in a front wheel drive 1.2 clio it practically impossible to pull out of this junction without a lot of wheel spin. An old road surface, a little water, adverse camber, lots of lock and steep incline all combine to get the front left wheel slipping for a second or two if you pull away with normal amounts of throttle. The TC kicks in and all comes together very quickly with no fuss or bother.
So at least in my case the answer to your question is yes I do get wheel spin everyday but it really is just physics and the FL2 does it so much less than other cars.
If I had the time I would build seats at this junction and charge a fee during icy or snowy weather as the sheer entertainment value of watching the look of panic on the faces of BMW, Audi and Merc drivers is priceless as they fishtail and slide up the hill.

If it was me, I would check my tyre pressures and wheel alignments.
