Thanks, but I've looked at that. Didn't seem to tell me anything other than to update Itunes and check my cable was in properly, both of which I did and still no joy. Don't know if it's an XP issue or a driver issue maybe, just wondered if anyone else had had the same prob and knew the fix.

try it in a different usb port for starters if that fails i'd just reset the ipod |

Maybe USB port on old PC is Ver 1.1 and latest Shuffle requires Ver 2.0?? |

Usb 1.1 and 2.0 can understand each other perfectly, only difference is the speed. |

May i suggest you pop into your local O2 store and see one of their 'guru' people. In the past they have helped me with my Apple products.

I have had the similar thing happen, especially if using the USB ports at the front of a PC, have you tried using one of the USB ports on the back of your PC |

Spent 2 hrs on apple website going through some long winded checks. Now think I have a driver issue on my pc which would probably best fixed by dumping it in a skip and buying a mac. |
