Can it be changed to take into account the horrid autos I have driven vs the far superior faultless manual I own?

Glad to hear it. A house with a gearbox would be odd Certainly no clunky box in my car. Super smooth LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |

Don't get me wrong the FR2 is sooooo much better, and suited with an Auto box.

The difference is, some of us were into three years of ownership before you bought one, hence some of have had both. |

As much as I feel that the FL2, as a heavy car / workhorse / tow car, is of course suited to a auto box, I must admit to a feeling of dissapointment / grave concern when I found out that the manuafacturer was not ZF. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

i agree the fl2 with the auto box is a very nice drive but what worried me was is the box reliable enough to justify the extra cost that l/rover charge i think when i bought mine it was in the region of 1K more than the manual however if the box failes prematurely the repair cost is horrendous ur looking at 3.5k as posted on this sight as opposed to 1k for a clutch replacement, after all some auto boxes have started to fail at 50k is very poor when you consider that there will be no driver abuse as apart from selecting drive/ rev the box does the rest

It's tough that any gearboxes fail prematurely, but the facts are that FL2auto boxes ARE very reliable, only a few have failed according to members here. The auto box perfectly suited to the FL2 and well worth the extra cost! Life is not a dress rehearsal! |

Ok, thanks Alex. Nobody on here commands my respect for technical prowess more than you and so I will rest a little easier now even though my last ZF auto went to 126 K miles without a problem !! Maybe the chances of an auto box failing are about the same as the chances of a manual box failing and so, when the clutch and DMF are factored in, is is invetible that manual cars will have more problems - as evidenced by the current scores in the yorkshire chicken-slaughterer's poll !
