squeeky gearbox

Before I troop down to the dealers (or team valley landrover, see my previous post) I wantd to run something by you all.

My gearbox squeeks. Sad

It's not a mechanical noise but a rubbery squeek similar to the noise you get when taking wet wellies off using the toe of one/heel of the other. Is that a good description? It occurs at all times with any movement of the gearstick. Am I being picky and this is normal or do I have a pronlme that needs seeing to??

Mine squeaks too! Crying or Very sad

Fixing it must be as simple as removing the leather gaiter and spraying with some form of lubricant, but it's another of those little jobs I haven't got round to yet!

Cars do not squeak unless two bits are moving relative to each other. One hopes that if they are designed to move against each other then one hopes they are designed not to squeak.
Joe, whichever way it is not right and should be checked out still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

Squeaks

Mine progressed from "sticky" to "squeaky". It's now booked in for the 19th. I'll keep you posted.

Fixed

Back from Hunter's (cleaned & polished) & fixed! No detectable squeak, and the shift is better than it has ever been. They followed the workshop bulletin (i.e. it's a known problem, with a fix), replaced the component in the gearbox linkage, and oiled and greased as required.

I took it for a drive & I'm a much happier bunny.

Shame all my trip counters got reset. I use these to monitor mileage, consumption etc. (OK I'm a GEEK). I assume that they updated the software, or does the interrogation upset them? Does anyone know how to determine the current software release level? That would be interesting!

Surprised I was going to start this very thread today!!

Mine started squeeking on the way home from work....not the gear box, but the gear shifter...Was wondering if anyone else was suffering the same...

Mine is at 4800mls....Guess I should call up the dealer... '57 FL2 GS

Re: Squeaks

Mine started squeeking , but it only seems to be when I am selecting 1st , 3rd and 5th gear, it does not happen when selecting any other gear, have reported the problem and I hope it will be sorted when my FRL2 is in for its first service. WE will see.
