Exactly - there is no need for additional wiring. It was a 60 sec. job for me.

This looks very good. When The interior lights come on do all 3 lights come on, or just the centre festoon bulb ? |

Hello all, first post here - lots of useful information on the forum, and it's time to give something back. Wanted the ambient light as well, and also the map reading lights as i find the single-light lamp very annoying at night when on. Based on the info in this thread I figured out that the easiest approach would be to fit a Ford lamp that would also have ambient lights. Turns out that some Mondeo or Focus ST lamps do have the ambient lights, so went on and sourced one of these: The ambient light is orange, which I believe it's actually good as some buttons and interior lights are orange as well. Looks very nice at night, not disturbing at all but smooth orange light inside. How I mounted it: 1. new lamp came with alarm sensors and control unit; the control unit is easy to remove from the unit as it's not needed and I had no idea how to wire that to the car's alarm 2. removed the old lamp; it's just a matter of removing the cover plastic (pull downwards) and then release the clamp holding the lamp in place (on the windshield side of the lamp). Lamp comes out easily. 3. Casing comes out just by pulling down (hard, I must say) or by sticking a non-scratching device between the casing an the metal frame holding it. If you look up through the hole you uncovered when removing the lamp you will see two of the three pins that keep it in place. Here's how it looks once removed (and also there was one more photo around this thread from a member who removed it): Here's how the roof looks without the case: You can see here the three holes where the pins keeping it in place go. 4. Wiring: I have wired the + of the LEDs at the illumination of the button for opening the sunroof. This way the LEDs will turn on only when lights are on. To do that, I have wired the + of the LEDs at the BROWN cable in the picture below. The ground of the LEDs is already plugged in (inside the lamp) at car's GND. 5. Fitted the case back 6. Fitted (plug&play) the lamp wiring for the new lamp. 7. Pushed the new lamp in its place; a word of warning, due to the angle of the power plugs (the two ground wires on the middle) the new lamp did not fit perfectly. Just some minor bending so that the plugs would fit in the case, and voila - new lamp on, with map reading lights and ambient lighting. Hope this is helpful! |

What is this ambient light for? Does it stay on all the time the headlights are on? If so, than I don't get the idea of having additional source of light inside the cabin, while driving at night. |
