Battery life depends on type of usage and where you live (as well as the quality of the battery). If you do short journeys and live in a cold place it will need replacing before the long trip car living in a warm place. However, to answer your question I have just changed the battery on my 07 car and the one I took off was the original. It has only done 30k and it may have lasted longer if it had done more miles due to the fact that it has been a short journey car. The battery I took off was not dead by any means but struggling on -7 degree mornings. Batteries degrade gradually so you tend not to notice it until the first frosty morning. It was obvious how much quicker the engine spun and started with the new battery. John

I was just thinking of changing mine before it started dying......the car is 5 years old now and i plan on keeping it for 2-3 years so i was going to fit a new one to try and prevent it failing when needed Black FL2 L200 Warrior |

A full tank of diesel costs about the same as a new battery...

There are no hard and fast rules on battery life. Some batteries can last many years, others can fail within the warranty period. Our MX5 is 15 years old and is still on the original battery. I've no intention of changing it until it gives problems. I could buy a new one, but that could fail just outside it's guarentee. I suppose you could say that there is little point in changing a perfecly healthy battery irrespective of age. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice. |

A cheap fully charged battery in the boot and a set of jump leads for the "just in case" moment if you're worried about your battery failing in cold weather is a cheaper option. ______________________
