Changed mine at 5 yrs as starting to die, low volts and not holding a full charge. Fitted battery from Stratstone Notts, as cheaper than local car part shops and the correct size (local shop supplied 74Ah @ 680A and not 80Ah @ 700A).

My 07 SE still has the original battery, which is not showing any adverse signs. I regularly use a CTEK 7000 to charge up to 14.7V and leave it until it sits in maintenance mode. I don't disconnect the battery to charge and have had no problems. Mr Strut has attached a permanent plug-in adaptor which makes all this a simple operation and I think there is a photo in his gallery. |

Good plan! My bike lives on the Optimate and never has any problems which is saying something when you consider the little bike battery turning over the 2,300cc engine. I would do the same with the car but can't get it in the garage....'cos the bike is in there! ![]() 07 HSE Narvick Black Land Rover Series One Triumph Rocket 111 (sadly gone!) |

Thought of that way Dave, but the Ctek came with the 'direct to battery' adapter lead, so why buy another lead |

Do you have to disconnect a battery when using a proper charger? Thinking of boosting mine at te weekend |

Nick, Nope, you can leave it connected to the car. If disconnected, you might get a marginally better/faster charge because there is no quiesent drain, hardly noticable though. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice. |

The quiescent current drawn by the car in stand-by is about 20-30 mAmps.

I use the 5A CTEC charger with no problems, on a flat battery it may take a little longer to fully charge it but for topping up and general maintenance no probs.

Dave, went for the bigger one as I also use it for the caravan battery, and at the time of buying, there wasn't much difference in the price. Yep, would agree totally with Richard in his comment above but I think the last time I bought a charger was over 30 years ago so if this lasts the same time, I'm happy ![]() |

Or don't do what I did....took the old battery out and then realised the new one was in the boot ![]() 07 HSE Narvick Black Land Rover Series One Triumph Rocket 111 (sadly gone!) |
