Locking wheel nuts!!

I've just discovered my locking wheel nut key is missing. I bought the freelander (used) about 7 months ago from a main dealer and it went back to them about 4 months ago for a warranty repair on the rear brakes by the same supplying dealer. I've just come to replace tyres and discovered the key is missing.

I went back to the main dealers and politely asked if they could sort out a replacement and have so far hit a brick wall. I assume they think it's my problem and I have mislaid it (I can't think of any reason why I would remove it???). Despite three phone calls with a promise that someone will phone me back (they never did), I am still waiting.

Now I am a reasonably patient person but I am now starting to get p Censored d off! Does anyone know if you can bypass the dealers and obtain the locking keys from elsewhere? Are they listed by chassis number or registration? I thought I'd better check before I erupt at the service manager Embarassed Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

dealer should have a master key, a new set of nuts and key isnt much more expensive than just a key, so get them to replace the lot At work

HI most dealers should have a master set of locking wheel nut keys i do know that at ford they have this set just for that reason if somebody looses the key they can match it up and give you the number to order a new one,check the dealer where the car was registered and speak to the admin dept they may have made a record of it in the file on the vehicle, i take it you have looked for a small card approx size of a credit car that will have the number on for you its not uncommon for service dept to take the key out to use when servicing the vehicle and not put it back,may i suggest that when you net take the car for repair that you put the wheel lpcking key into a small box and leave it on the passenger seat and tell them that you want it put back and left on the seat when they have finished hope this helps you and good luck Thumbs Up rainy-city

Hi Guys. Many thanks for your help. First time this has happened to me but I'll be more careful in future and use the box on the front seat tip! Thanks again.

Went to Stratstone Bury to have my new wheel nuts fitted. I have posted my dissatisfaction about them during the purchase of my new car but the service guy was excellent. The job took less than half an hour but he still offered to wash & vac the car.
Thought I would get a price for a full size spare wheel while I was there. Quote was as follows;
Tyre £199.17, Jack £40, Tray £21.96, Bolt £5.12, Wheel £372.50 VAT 127.75 Total £766.50! Confused
Off to fleabay

In the words of Victor Meldrew, I don’t believe it. I felt a bit sorry for the guy (I must be going soft) he had been to get the okay from the sales person and they were probably saying “oh no not him” He came back all sheepish with a printout to prove that the cost was pucker

There is a thread on here somewhere that the Jack is about £28, the tray is no longer fitted, they stopped fitting the tray a couple of years ago. All the spare wheel set up consists of now is, The Wheel, The wheel retaining bolt, wheel nut spanner and the Jack followed by the most important bit, the elastic band on the Jack.

It holds the wheel nut brace to the Jack to stop it rattling, I kid you not..
