Probably caused by something else switching on and momentarily affect the voltage until the alternator adjusts, air conditioning maybe, seat heaters, cooling fans? |

Thanks for the quick response. I thought it might be bluetooth or something like that so I won't panic about it. I don't know what it is but I have so many noises, rattles, leaks and lights not working on my 2001 Defender and I just consider that to be character, yet one small issue on a Freelander and I worry!!! Doesn't make sense does it?! |

Anything that draws more power from the battery has this effect did it on my old car too. |

I've had this occasionally, usually happens about twenty yards from the drive after initial start up, like mentioned by Mona Geeza I suspect it is something switching on or off and the voltages stabilising. |

I thought my eyes were playing tricks too. The first time I notices the dimming was about a week after I bought the car. It happens at any time in a journey: from a minute after start up to two hours into the journey. I will just get everything checked out when it's serviced. I think that cars appear far too complicated nowadays and somethings bound to interfere with something else in the electrics. |

I've had this too. Its always happened since the car was new and I now don't worry about it. I've put it down to something switching on, although i've not worked out what. '09 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

Seem to recall earlier posts about suspicions that the battery earthing wasn't exactly of the best ... this could have a significant impact in high current draw situations. There were similar problems in my (sob ... former) VW California which prevented the internal diesel heater from firing up, the poor earthing arrangement just wouldn't allow enough current to flow to meet the requirements. Dimming lights could be a sign of this?

Our car has been back to the local dealer three times to fix this. They say there is nothing wrong and it does not happen when they have it!!!!
