OIL SERVICE VISIT DEALER - FAULT MESSAGE

My car is aproaching the second service, service indiator shows 750 km's and also some days to go, but the car started showing "OIL SERVICE VISIT DEALER" while starting, and there is a constant "OIL SERVICE" indicator shoving on odometer while driving.

There are no other warnins etc. there.

Shall I drive the rest 750 km's and go to normal service, or is this OIL SERVICE something to worry about?

Considering service interval here is only 12000 km's, I find it unusual to find an oil related warning like this. Previous freely hasn't shown this.

Any suggestions? 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

Wintermute, this seems to be an MY11 thingt, mine along with a others have had this happen, I had the service warning come, had the service then a week later the oil service warning came, the dealer sorted it ok, it is as though there are two service indicators, one for general service and one for the oil. Possibly in my case the dealers were unaware of this and reset the service indicator and not knowing about or for getting the oil service indicator.

Many cars in this day and age have two service schedules.......fixed and variable.
Fixed is fairly obvious, usually a set mileage or time period.
The variable, I believe, looks at the driving habits along with oil sensors that look at the colour of the oil, I wonder if it it this system that is seeing an oil change and triggering the warning.
Someone with Ford/Citroen diesel knowledge may be able to say if those cars have variable options.

I can see the logic in Taz's post, which adds to my theory regarding two service indicator settings that need resetting on a service, could even be just a software item that LR are using that monitors the driving conditions for the oil service and a daily counter for the standard service indicator.

In general, later vehicles fitted with DPF's have an oil dilution monitoring system which is seperate to the service indicator. If the oil becomes too diluted with diesel through frequent regen then the oil needs changing ! asap.
I dont know whether L/R have adopted this warning system

I'd go along with olgeezer that it has to do with oil dilution and re-generation.
I believe it to be one message for time/miles and the other oil dilution has been reached.

Do not worry, this is just a change in wording on 2011MY. My previous FL2's showed service due times in small panel beside mileometer, new SD showed OIL SERVICE DUE on info display 2or 3 weeks before car was 1 year old, mileage was 14000.
That is now the norm for 2011my vehicles as the older service due was in very small print on previous models.

Your car must soonbe due its first service. All FL2's (3) Gone

I assume this is it druand. It started showing this message just after the regular small service message.

I don't think it has anything to do with dpf. Previous car had no dpf, and I didn't see any information that this one has one anywhere. Is there a way to tell whether this one has dpf? 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

I also just received the same message (OIL SERVICE VISIT DEALER) today at only 12K KM. Anyone figure out what this indicates?
I guess the safe bet is an urgent dealer visit

"OIL SERVICE REQUIRED VISIT DEALER 'SERVICE' displayed in odometer Advisory message informing driver that a diesel particulate filter regeneration cycle has caused the engine oil to become diluted.

Depending on driving style, some vehicles may require an oil service before the designated interval. If an service message is displayed, the vehicle will be required have a full service and the service interval counter will be reset."

So, the normal service countdown indicator shows your normal service interval, i.e 200 miles, or -2 days etc. If you get the extra OIL SERVICE REQUIRED VISIT DEALER 'SERVICE' , it's because the DPF system has diluted the engine oil, & the vehicle needs to be serviced before the set interval.

As for the message coming on just after a service, that's because although they reset the normal service indicator, they didn't reset the oil counter setting, which is an additional procedure on SDD test equipment.

DPF's inject diesel after the normal injection time, to add neat diesel into the cat, to heat it up, so it can regenerate the DPF, this cycle takes approx 20mins, if it is not completed fully, it tries again the next time & so on, this eventuall causes an amount of diesel to enter the sump. So on cars that don't do longer runs very often (over 30mph for over 20mins) approx every 450 miles, the 'oil service due indicator comes on, usually about a month or so before the 'proper fixed interval'.

Steve

My SD4 is due for it's service in two weeks (12 months and 14300 miles), in the larger info screen it says 'OIL SERVICE REQUIRED VISIT DEALER 'SERVICE' and the smaller odometer screen says 'OIL SERVICE'.

Talking to the LR garage where it is booked in, there should be only one reminder for the time/mileage service, the other is telling you your oil has been diluted to the maximum of 7% with diesel. As I am only 2 weeks away from the service the Tech says I'm OK for this.

If you are not near a service interval then get your car in for an oil change as it is diluted with diesel due to a regeneration fail.

The message 'OIL SERVICE' in the small odometer is the time/miles and hopefully the only one you should see.
The message 'OIL SERVICE REQUIRED VISIT DEALER 'SERVICE' in the centre larger screen is regarding the DPF.

I don't think the garages are all singing together, when mine was due for service I had the service count down in the small info screen advising me of the amount of days remaining, it had the service and two days later again in the small info screen I had the message "Oil Service Due Visit Dealer" Question

I had my one serviced and a couple of weeks later the oild service warning came on--went back to dealer. clearly they had not known to clear the memory twice! Was all a bit of a mystery to them! There is no mention of this in the ( useless) owner's manual either.
