Mudflaps

I want to fit a set of mudflaps and have spotted the Hong Kong ones on eBay which are about half the cost of LR ones. I know this will shock the purists among us but to me they appear to be very similar (at least in the photos) but are they ok? Cheers,
Raz

Same with dodgy Rolex, the look the same until the hands fall off. Laughing

Hi Raz, I've just been down the same route, the copies on e-bay are similar, some of the UK ones even, I would say, could possibly made on the same tooling but no Land Rover logo. Where they do differ is the front ones do not come with the pressed metal brackets that LR put in the kit ( which are 3 dimensional pressings so you will not be making your own). If you don't use these I suspect the first snow or mud rut will see you lose the flaps and tear the wheel arch liners.

In the end after checking every price I could I bought front and back off site sponsers Duckworths who :

a) discount the price
b) were the best total price I could find as they deliver free if you say you are a site member
c) were polite, efficient, and delivered in 48 hours Thumbs Up

Still got to fit them as we haven't had a decent day since they were delivered Evil or Very Mad 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Martyn and Razman, I have heard that the rears are easy to fit, the fronts can be a pig because of the moulded shape. Soak them in hot water and soften them first, makes it much easier.

Keeps side of car lean, after 2000 miles since last wash, sides are quite clean and not covered in salt etc. Thumbs Up

Hi Pegleg Front or Back , or both ? I ask because the quickest way to Kelbrooke Shooting lodge involves me driving along 50 or 60 yards of ford which can be axle height in bad weather 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Three of them over around five or six 'splashes'. Both rears fell off first mind you i was motoring!
Water was around a foot deep.
I also lost the rubber strips from around the wheel arches. I'm now on my third set. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I take all the blame as i was no doubt going too fast. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Don't think it is the Mudflaps that has kept it clean, perhaps your wise choice of not choosing B Censored is a significant reason Whistle

Rears take 5 minutes to do both sides, fronts Evil or Very Mad

Go for the genuine LR 'flaps! I believe there was a thread a few weeks ago re non LR mudflaps and the front ones were not too good. The LR rears are a doddle to fit, the fronts a little more of a pain but take your time and the job will be a good 'un Thumbs Up

Only downside with the original parts is, as usual with LR, the cost but as other members have said, Duckworths seem to offer a good deal.

Hi, AD
I parked up near another silver one recently, without flaps, there was a definate line of dirt up the sides.
Yes, black is a nightmare with salty roads, mine looks relatively clean, in this photo the sides are filthy if you look close enough.
