Body styling kit

Does anyone have the body styling kit Question
Looking through various members galleries I can't ever remember seeing a car with this fitted. Surprised
I know they are no good if going off road but not all owners take their free landers off road so what is the reason for their not being very popular Question

wildrover has one Thumbs Up

I think the cost may also be a factor in lack of popularity and the Fl2 looks good without it already.

why bother

I was bemused by body kits being available so soon after the FL2 launch. Having met the cool FL2 designer guy at the London Motor Show in 2006, and hearing him describe his design concept and realisation, it would strike me as perverse to bolt on a load of other bits to change it all!! Shocked  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Builder.

The reason for not being popular is that they look like a dogs dinner, IMHO. Shocked

Get an accessories brochure. There is a picture in there of the Halfords Ram raid body kit.

Worth getting hold of the spolier though.

Yes, I certainly think the spoiler adds something on the plus side cosmetically. I would like one, but as always the cost seems a little excessive!

You can see one in Carlfraz's gallery. I like mine a lot as it sort of finishes off the back end nicely.

I picked mine up on ebay for £106. It was a 'slight second' - tiny scratch on it that no-one would ever notice.

I've also seen Narvik black ones on ebay but you have to keep your an eye out.
I have a saved ebay search that mails me when new stuff is added.

Wildrover has piccies of the full body kit in his gallery. '57 GS TD4 in Stornoway. Privacy, Leather, Tred Cills. From ebay etc.. 18" 12 spoke HSE alloys, rear spoiler, clear side repeaters with clear leds, led interior light to replace bulbs, sports exhaust trim, TomTom 720.

Hi npinks.

Do you mean that your insurance company wanted to charge you an extra £60 notes just because you were going to fit a spoiler. Question

Hi scotster. The spoiler you bought on ebay, have you fitted it yet? if so how easy was it to fit as I would love one of them for my car but not at £300 from garage.

It took me 15 mins to fit in the work car park - that easy! Ill post a PM I sent someone else who was thinking of paying the dealership to do it.

npinks. So the insurance say its a modification???? I'm amazed!

Guess I should check with my insurer. ....and you owe me £60. Wink '57 GS TD4 in Stornoway. Privacy, Leather, Tred Cills. From ebay etc.. 18" 12 spoke HSE alloys, rear spoiler, clear side repeaters with clear leds, led interior light to replace bulbs, sports exhaust trim, TomTom 720.

PM as promised:

If you pay to get this fitted you will be burning a pile of twenty pound notes!

It took me 20 mins during my lunch hour!

It has two self adhesive pads (one at either end) and two simple brackets. The only difficulty is getting it on straight from the outset as the self adhesive pads grab immeadiately and it seems strong. I did it on my own but it would be very easy with two people either end.

The best way with a person at either end is to position the bottom edge touching that at an angle. Get the bottom edge right without the adehsive touching and simply pivot it flat to stick the full pad. Im making it sound more complex than it is.

The garage could not possibly charge you more than 30 mins labour.

Enjoy! '57 GS TD4 in Stornoway. Privacy, Leather, Tred Cills. From ebay etc.. 18" 12 spoke HSE alloys, rear spoiler, clear side repeaters with clear leds, led interior light to replace bulbs, sports exhaust trim, TomTom 720.

Body kits are a personal choice, which is why manufacturers give the option of so many colours and variants. My wife wanted the body kit when she saw it in the showroom and personally, with it sitting side by side with another without the kit, i think the kit finishes it off very well. Plus they are very expensive for what you get, but we got a good deal so i wasn't complaining.
As some say, the kit will prevent off-roading to some extent, but ours is for holidays, comfort and to get us home in the winter, not so much off-roading.
I don't like the chromed door mirror covers, and the clear or amber side repeaters, to me, depend on the body colour. It's down to preference. Out with the old (2007 SE)
In with the new (2012 Dynamic with everything). Now also gone.

Yep the Insurance company said it was a modification (which it is) and wanted £60 to cover the spoiler due to increased risk, this goes along with the other mods (tow bar, Side protection tubes & privacy glass)

That along with the £60 increase due to a SP30 i thought Sainsburys had brought out "Feel the Difference" Insurance. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Having seen 4 or 5 LR2's with the bodykits on the other day at the dealer I think they do look good and add to the look of the small RRS.

I would take the kit if I wasn't planning on going off-road for my work so often, instead I think i'll go for the spoiler .....and maybe the grill.....

I liked the additional touch the dealer (I guess) did by fitting the "Sport" badge from the RRS on the back.

All of the cars I have owned for the last twenty odd years have had a tow bar fitted to them and I never thought that I would have to declare this to the insurers as a modification. Just goes to show how easy it is to get caught out.

I think that I will start this as a new thread to see how many others have added extras and innocently not declared them. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed
