HSE spec sound system

Before I go back to the LR Dealer to ask ...

2010 TD4e HSE ... have been feeding CDs into the facia-mounted CD unit ... fine. Noticed the other day when I had to run the driver's seat fully forward that there's a black box mounted on top of the rear passengers footwell heater channeling. Looks rather like a remote CD changer, but cannot bring myself to believe that the CDs fed into the facia get down to here somehow!!!

So it's either something else (perhaps the amplifier for the sound system? Or, perhaps an additional CD changer that I (& the dealer) know nothing about so far.

I'm over in Dubai at present, so no pics available, but if anyone knows for certain what this box is ... please post in reply.

Not sure what that could be. I have just sold my 2010 HSE TD4e & never noticed anything down there. The CD's are stored behind the facia where you load them in. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
(Past) RR Evoque Dynamic Lux Si4 In Firenze Red.
(Past) RR Evouque Pure Tech in Barollo Black with bespoke Firenze Red colour coding.
(Present) Freelander Metropolis 2015 MY In Santorini Black with Ivory Premium Leather.

It's the navigation unit.
There you'll feed the navigation CD.

It's written in the manual at page 108, lower right.

LOADING THE NAVIGATION DVD
Note: Before using the navigation system, ensure that the DVD that contains the correct country mapping information is loaded in the navigation control unit housed under the right-hand front seat. Access to the DVD player is from the rear of the seat.

Many thanks Alex. Yes, of course & makes sense of the CD symbol I spotted.

Do you have info on when it might be worth getting an update disc for the satnav? Not exactly "inexpensive" are they!

Updates are about each one or two years from what I've seen....

Ok, but already been down that road & a couple of posts on the topic. Uncertainty is how much updating between discs. Garmin took about 3 years to put a new road in where I live in Devon!

When I get round to it I'll re-do/check my homework & put in a fresh post if justified.

Phrased my question to you poorly

About that, I wrote to Navteq a while ago about their maps in Romania being extremely poor (cities with over 100k inhabitants not being available in the system.

This is their reply:
NAVTEQ updates the database on a daily basis. This database is made available to the navigation system, portable device or car manufacturers on a quarterly basis. It is the navigation system, portable device or car manufacturer’s decision whether a specific database version will be used to update the map of the navigation system or portable device.

It seems they update the database more often than 1 or 2 years, however I did not really understand how you can get the updated database in the nav system.

From what I've seen the nav disks are like 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011, etc.
And you stick them into the nav unit and wait. Luckily, after some time, you'll have an updated unit.
I said luckily because, like several others said here, if the unit needs firmware updating (which is also on DVD), you'll have to wait over 30 mins.
